Vehicle engine size and running costs?

Big cars are cheap to buy.
But usually a bit dearer on the insurance. Fuel consumption varies wildly though,
I have a 2L diesel mondeo, My very short stop start journeys it does low 30's to the gallon. My sister bought a little daewoo that did 42mpg in the same traffic.
We went to blackpool and hers managed 45mpg, I managed 53mpg.
And my journey was a lot more relaxed and comfortable compared to hers.
A gentle fairly clear drive from the fuel station, Max speed 40mph but with several traffic lights and roundabouts. I have managed over 60mpg.
But scraping the ice and snow off teh side windows with the engine running and the short heavy traffic winter journeys ive had it below 30mpg.
But 2000 miles maximum a year is it worth having a car?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Wrong, so my 420 diesel will have head gasket failure? What about the 3 Rovers with K series engines I've owned, none of which had HGF?
You should open a garage with that mentality, all the rest seem to think the same.
FYI overheating on a K series in my experience is usually thermostat stuck, inlet manifold gasket leaking water causing an overheat or waterpump leaking.0 -
the 1.1 rover isnt prone to HGF.
that said, OP you would get a decent price for it from a club forum rather than get £110 scrp for it.
i would get a collectors classic, nothing bold as brass, and too uncommon, never know, you may enrol in a members club and show it off at classic car shows.0
