Windows XP System Restore files

Hi,
I have my hard drive partitioned into three, windows on C:. back up files on d: and e:
I dont have system restore currently enabled on d: and e:, however when I perform a full virus scan I notice that it scans a lot of system restore files on d: and e:, is there any way of deleting these files?
