2nd hand laptop, worth it or not?

Hi a friend has offered me a laptop with the following spec
Acer 5532
Intel t4400 duo core processor @ 2.2ghz
320 gb hard drive
4 gb ram
15.6 hd LCD screen
8 x DVD recorder
Web cam
Not sure on graphic card

He wants £190 for it, is it worth it? I don't play games other than football manager 2012, some photo printing and office docs and that's about it, or can I get better spec or newer for a little more?

Thanks

Unless it comes loaded with software that you'll actually use, that's a lot of money for a 2nd hand laptop with no warranty. Personally I wouldn't be willing to pay any more than £100.

You could buy a refurbished laptop for around £250 with similar or higher spec and a 12 month warranty.

Don't be put off by the term 'refurbished'. Machines are generally as good as new but may not have the original box or the box has been opened, contents removed then repacked (so bits like the film covering the lid/screen etc may be absent.

These units are fully tested, repacked (albeit often in a different box) and sold with a full 12 month guarantee.

Not sure what you mean by Erm ,,,,,no, But if the Op was considering a second hand machine without any guarantee and a less expensive refurbished computer with a warranty.
I know which i'd go for, but then maybe the spec on the other one makes it much better, i don't know much about these things.

I wrote ..."erm...no", because that is what I meant. No.

30 day warranty for those old clunkers? 256MB RAM?? Just a load of old rubbish.

Should be selling for £30 to £50....if that. £50 for the 'Premium' range.

It would've been a lot informative if you'd give a reason in your first post.
To just say No sounds like a parent saying to their small child "No".
And the reason being, ..... Cos i say so.

I sold a Sony with almost identical spec for £150 a few months back.

What you want to be asking is how old it is, What OS,( I'm assuming it's Vista as the Sony was and Vista IMO is sluggish and frustrating to use) whats the battery life like. I would try to reduce the price depending what the answers are.

Personally if it has Vista I would pay abit more and get a refurb with warranty and Win 7 on it.
