Good thread!! Difficult to know what to put but here goes:

    1. Get a place on a Midwifery degree and complete it.
    2. Get a job I enjoy.
    3. Be financially stable.
    4. Meet a partner and have children.

Not too much to ask?! :o :rotfl:

Hell if you do no. 1 you won't need to do 4 to get kids, you will be able to just steal them :p Doesn't everyone take post-it-notes and biros home by accident from work!

I'm 37 and DH is 43, so this is a long term plan, but it motivates me when I see the debt coming down.

Great thread! Hmm... never really thought of them as "life goals" just things I want to get done but I suppose it's the same thing really.

Maybe by changing my way of looking at them I will stand a better chance of achieving them.

    Umm...let me think....

    1. Learn not to feel guilty about the fact that I don't want children.
    2. Get out of debt (only a year and a bit to go)
    3. Sell my flat and OH's house and buy a place together (and be mortgage free within 10 years).
    4. Have a garden big enough to grow my own veg and some fruit trees
    5. Get married
    6. Spoil my nephew (18months) and his forthcoming brother/sister to bits.
    7. Bore everyone I know to death with snippets of information from this site.... oh.. I think I do this one already!

That's me done for now. I think they will keep me going.

    Right

The first thing I am going to do before drafting the plan is reflect on a few of the momentous occasions of the last few years after LBM:

Had mse style wedding - FEBRUARY 2001
Saved like a mad thing to pay off our debts - 2001 - 2005
    Qualified - SEPTEMBER 2005
Paid off huge professional study loan - NOVEMBER 2006
    Became homeowner - FEBRUARY 2006
Started max overpayments on mortgage (20% of monthly amount fixed as the max for the 3 years of the fixed interest rate) - AUGUST 2006
Bought car in cash - OCTOBER 2006
Paid off last credit card - OCTOBER 2006

    This year I want to:

Be a bit more green. I bought a compost bin which is filling up nicely. Our recycling regime is getting better too!
Maintain health & fitness - took control after NY and have lost 11lbs since. Target to get down to 10st7lbs (will continue to monitor - longterm aim to realise 10st3lbs). ONGOING
Keep off the booze - nothing in JANUARY & FEBRUARY - I can't believe how well I did! Weekends only thereafter!!! - MARCH AND ONGOING
Write wills - started drafting mine and the other half's this evening. FINISH TOMORROW AND HAVE THEM WITNESSED IN FRONT OF TWO INDEPENDENT WITNESSES!!
Get ISA sorted for other half for this tax year - MARCH
Help the other half to get a new(ish) motorbike mse style - MARCH ONWARDS
Get ISAs sorted for both of us for next tax year - APRIL ONWARDS

(Should then be looking at building up contingency fund to equal 3 months salary for both of us)

Leave current job (already in progress as midway through notice!! yay!) - APRIL
Pass motorbike test first time (fingers crossed!) - APRIL
Start new job (better more varied work and on much better pay and benefits!) - MAY
Replace roof on extension to house using savings - MAY/JUNE
Pay off the last of my student loans - JUNE
ONWARDS - remind myself how blooming well we have done and do more fun things (in an mse way)
Have a lovely MSE summer in the UK (look into camping equipment?) - JUNE/JULY/AUGUST
Consider whether to continue stoozing or not. If yes, get new BT card - AUGUST
Go on first holiday together since honeymoon (five years ago) - SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER/NOVEMBER (only two weeks - but flexible)

Replaster house (basically from top to bottom) - OCTOBER(?)
Pay back the folks (I will then be completely debt-free yay!) - DECEMBER
Consider upping mr lixi's student loan repayments - DECEMBER
Consider other forms of long term investment -DECEMBER

    Onwards...

Knock through back rooms in house and tile kitchen and sunroom - SPRING 2008
Consider buying motorbike - SPRING 2008
    Rehome a dog - SPRING 2008
Look into buy-to-let 2nd home or house purchase with sister-in-law as investment - MARCH 2008
    Decorate generally - SUMMER 2008
Consider carrying out extension plans to house and then selling on at profit - 2008/2009
Remortgage and opt for a shorter term - JAN 2009

TRY TO CONTINUE PUT UP WITH HUSBAND throughout (he doesn't "care" about what goes on the life plan - he soon will - oh yes!! See below!)
Children? - 2011 onwards (he will make such a good Dad!) ;-0
Would love to be debtfree (including mortgage at 40 - could be even sooner but probably realistic as depends on the pesky and as yet non-existent kids!!!) ;-) - 20

I'm sure my plan could go into further deeper detail but I will try and keep it brief here. I read something recently about how your resolutions, goals etc should be in keeping with you 'core values' - what's really important to you not what you think other people would expect of you, otherwise your goals will be doomed from the start...or will mean nothing.

    So with that in mind...

    * Do some distance learning on a topic I enjoy dabbling with now (nutrition) so I can find out if I want to take it further.
    * Get into a line of work that I feel a connection with, something that lets me use my exceptional (even if I do say so myself :o ) organisational skills in the work place. I really want to enjoy my work!
    * The job needs to help people or be of service to the planet and/or it's population to some degree!
    * Make my home a beautiful and warm, loving one with my partner (hopefully husband one day..!)
    * Continue to lead an honest life and be there for my close friends and family.
    * See more new places and revisit some old favourites....remind myself that life is for living.
    * Of course....get out of debt ASAP and never return (I can live with the mortgage).
    * Get fit again. I used to be so very fit, now I'm so very not fit!
    * Learn to play an instrument and/or be brave enough to sing in front of someone else one day (drunken karaoke doesn't count!) as I am scared to do it but I love singing.

That'll do for now. (Thought I was keeping it brief?)

That's really interesting LA, I hadn't heard that before! Was sat here thinking and realised my list earlier doesn't really tally with my values as such, I mean I could achieve all those things and still not have achieved what's really important to me IYSWIM? So, inspired by LA, and not worrying about what others think :o , my life goals are:

    1. To get a job that is worthwhile and helps people, something that I feel comfortable with morally (unlike now!).

    2. To increase my self confidence and overcome my insecurity.

    3. To follow my intuition and what I want to do, without being paralysed by fear of other people will think.

    4. To feel confident enough to express my opinions without fear as in 3.

    5. To have children and do my best to bring them up as decent people.
Don't stress, relax, let life roll off your backs. Except for death and paying taxes, everything in life is only for now... Avenue Q
