Hi
Thanks for stopping by my diary. Congratulations on the tax rebate and the remortaging, you're really moving forwards.
I don't know what you could tell your friend. You could just tell her your skint at the moment. I wonder sometimes if being in debt makes you super-senstive to appearing to be debt. I have several friends who freely admit they cant do anything at the end of the month, which would make cringe, although techincally I can't afford to do anything at any point in the month.
Maybe you could pre-empt them by suggesting something inexpensive? If you can keep control of your wallet you could suggest a day at the shops instead of an evening out? (My wallet always goes AWOL if I try that, but yours may be better behaved

I am now telling people - "I'm finding it harder to make ends meet and I need to cut back and make savings". It's not quite the whole truth but people have been very understanding and a lot of people have confessed they could do with saving some more money too. I think if you explain that it's a general cut back on everything (and not just an excuse you're making to avoid her birthday) then she would understand.Grocery Challenge £114.22/ £1100

Congratulations on doing so well so quickly! It's amazing how much you can save when you start to pay attention to your money. It can be scary but it's so worthwhile to get out from under it.
I've subscribed to your thread. I don't have a diary yet. I'm currently in limbo - not actually in debt but I'm about to buy a house which then needs repair work. I'm trying to learn from the MSE boards so I can pay that back ASAP and start saving for other things.0 -

I had a LBM thanks to this site in 2007 - I'd got myself into £3k of debt and my partner had had to stop work because of illness. I sorted out my debt and built up a savings fund for a house deposit. However, the house we're buying needs more work than my savings will cover and we'll be living closer to the edge without the nice pile of savings as an emergency fund so I'm hanging around to learn everything I can to save money!0
