What is the model and operating system of your computer? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

It's a macbook, on snow leopard. I've managed to disable the track pad, but in truth I hate using the house when I'm writing. It's really awkward when you're writing a lot.0

Don't you mostly use the keyboard then? That gum you like is coming back in style.0

If you're writing a lot then you wouldnt be using the mouse all that much.. Or do you need a mouse to type and not the keyboard anymore?
To be honest using a 3rd party product Apple are bound to state that it was the battery's fault so they dont have to do anything.
Never mind. onwards and upwards. To infinity and beyond!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
P.S I wrote all that without using my mouse"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -
Steve Jobs never wanted a keyboard on the original Apple Mac.
Never a favourite, I care not for turtle necks or showmanship. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
It's not Apple i have the problem with but the third party supplier. As for typing without the mouse/trackpad, yes typing is fine, but when it comes to corrections or editing then the mouse is needed. It also makes it impossible to use in a confined space, or indeed on my lap. Using the mouse slows the process down, and means that I have to have the computer in a different position. The company have admitted the battery was too big. The technician has confirmed that it caused the damage. I'm not sure why it seems that I'm to be blamed, other than for buying a cheaper battery. If one was to buy a part for a car, and that part turned out to have be incorrectly made, and it damaged the car, surely the fault would lie with the manufacturer and supplier. I was really hoping someone could actually give some advice on tackling the company.0

Macbooks mostly use the trackpad to scroll using 2 fingers. Personally, I couldn't imagine not being able to use the trackpad. Added to this the use of a mouse takes away the whole point of a lap top as then you need it on a hard surface not your lap.
I'm guessing this was one of the £20 - £30 batteries you bought as opposed to the official Apple £100 product?
So many horror stories online of these unofficial batteries causing problems, and most of the batteries seem to come in from China etc
I think you'll probably have to chalk this one up to experience and buy the official product next time. I certainly wouldn't entertain the idea of a £30 crappy Chinese battery in my £1200 MacBook.0 -
Surely you would have been able to see that it was too big when you were fitting it, also depending on what model your macbook is doesn't the battery have it's own space to fit that is sealed off from the rest of the components?
ETA: If you prefer to use a trackpad you can buy them on their own0 -
I'm confused..
you say in the original post you want them to pay to repair it, then you say you want compensation but not sure how much to ask for. So what are you after exactly? If the former, then why don't you know how much, as you surely would have got quotes?
Why are you loosing work if this has only affected the mouse track?0 -

I was assuming this was the old style white MacBook where the battery just pulls out. I wouldn't want to be pulling apart a MacBook Pro Unibody to fit a battery myself.0
