battery broke my computer

Cane anyone advise me please. I bought a generic battery for my laptop. When I inserted it, it damaged the cables on my trackpad, which means that if I touch it the computer acts as if the button is permanently pressed, and I have to shut it down. It has been confirmed by a technician that they battery caused the damage, because it was actually too big.
I am a writer and this has caused huge problems for me. Not only do I have to type with out touching the trackpad which is both awkward and sometimes gets painful, I have also lost pieces of work when for some reason, generally the other windows that are open, I have not been able to save before shutting down.
The company has sent me a new battery. But I am pressing them for compensation. I need a new trackpad, and it fitted. I have spent many hours trying to resolve the problem, in terms of taking it to the repairer, and writing countless e-mails. My work has been affected to a great extent. This has been going on for almost 3 months without resolution. I sent an e-mail last week to which I have had no reply. I have been very patient. I have not my temper in any way, but I am now very frustrated and my patience is at an end. Can anyone advise me on a way to proceed. Thank you.

unlikely you'll gt compo for that. use a usb mouse instead..........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Did you check it was the correct battery? Did they tell you what you needed? (I need a battery for an xyz machine) or do you specify it? (I want battery model 123) That matters!
I doubt you'll get a cent by way of compo. They supplied the battery - BUT, you fitted it! Seems to me the problem is all of your making.
If you'd bought it from me, that's what i'd be telling you, I'm afraid. Sue if you want, but i can't see any court siding with you - it would be a waste of time and money. If they had fitted it then that puts it in a whole new light but, as it is, you did............0 -
The company admitted that they had had the problem of the battery being too big before. The technician, an apple supplier, confirmed this. He also confirmed it was the size of the battery which caused the problem. It was nothing to do with the installation. The component they supplied, which was the right one, was incorrectly manufactured. It even protruded on the underside of the computer. It may only have been a matter of millimetres, but it was enough to damage the cables. I specified my requirements, and they sent me the battery for the machine.0

How much was the battery, and did they stipulate it was the correct model for your laptop? How much compo are you looking for? Were there any children in the vicinity of the damaged laptop?
Demand compensation!0 -
Disable the trackpad (horrible things), and use a mouse. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

There were no children around. I fitted it myself, and very carefully. The technician, who is an official apple supplier confirmed that is was purely the battery's fault as it were. The company themselves admitted that they had had the problem before. I bought it through Amazon. It was the correct model. I'm not sure how much compensation to look for, but I was waiting to see what the would offer me. It has severely hampered my work for now almost 3 months. Do you have any suggestions as to how much I should ask for.0

I'd be looking for at least £10,000 - the price of a new laptop, three months salary, plus possibly an uplift for pain and suffering.
Now if there had been children around, you'd be looking at megabucks. Always think of the children!0 -
I know nothing about macbooks, but surely to can do what I suggested in the previous post as a work around.
There does appear to be an 'Ignore trackpad when mouse is present' in the operating system options. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
So you must've forced the thing in for it to cause damage.
As mentioned above, disable the trackpad and use a mouse instead.0 -
It wasn't forced in. The company admitted themselves that the problem had occurred before. The technician stated it was purely the fault of the battery, so not sure how you can state it was my fault. THus far I can't find a way to disable the trackpad, but thank you.0
