Hi folks
I lost my dog a few weeks ago and in my cupboard I have aprox
150 x Vivitonin
75 x Aktivait
70 x Rimadyl
over £300 worth at my vets prices, luckily I bought them online for a 3rd of that
but its still a lot of monies worth of tablets,
so my dilema is - What on earth do I do with them?
the money saver in me makes the thought of binning them a no no,
Vivitonin and Rimadyl your not allowed to get without prescription, would I be breaking laws to pass them on? more to the point would anyone want them?
Arrgh ideas please
[/STRIKE]
As it seems I'm not trustworthy and being nice isn't the done thing anymore, I no need to worry about these and they are now destroyed
problem solved :j

Dog rescues would probably appreciate them, not sure on the legalities of it though.0

I'm confident that you would be breaking the law if you tried to sell or give these away because you won't hold the necessary authorisation to distribute these drugs (in this country the selling of animal meds is regulated by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency which is part of the Dept of Health).

Why not ring the vet and see if they can take them back or if they know of a way to recycle them?
Unfortunately I suspect they might have to be wasted though, as the vet doesn't know how you've stored them/handled them etc.0 -

OP ordered them online so presumably the vet would definately dispose of them.0 -

Thanks for replies folks
I know the biggers rescues wouldn't of wanted them, but I'm extremely warey of the smaller 'rescues' as I was taken for a huge ride by one last year and I'm only just financially recovering now :-(
I haven't even thought about returning them as they are opened, so knew they couldn't be returned from where I got them from
as I am not a law breaker I guess my only option is to dispose of them, I'm at the vets tomorrow so I shall ask them about it, I know human meds your not allowed to bin and are to take them to chemists, is it the same for animal meds?
its a waste .. and I'm sorry I can't help anyone else with them .. its a shameA heap big thank you to everyone who posts the comps, your all stars!

What are the meds for? I ask because I have passed on unwanted drugs to members on Yahoo user groups...ie Hyperthyroid groups etc. Sorry, I don't care two hoots if it is illegal, if I can save waste and help someone out who may be desperately short of funds then I am happy to do so.
I also recently gave a bunch of stuff to a (lovely ) small cat rescue, they told me they were unable to officially ask for such things with their newsletters or appeals but were EXTREMELY glad to receive them if offered in person.0 -
The Rimadyl is for pain relief (Jazz had arthritis from an old cruciate ligament injury)
The Vivitonin were for after she had a stroke in November and was to keep the blood flowing to her brain to stop her having another
I'd rather give them away too, I hate to get rid of them, I'm not even after money, I know there was many a time I struggled to pay for her meds, and I'd love to be able to help peeps out, I Just don't know anyone on who uses these meds and I'm not after getting myself arrested *gulps*A heap big thank you to everyone who posts the comps, your all stars!

Please don't bin the meds. Some rescues abroad might be able to use them, and may have people visiting from UK who can take the drugs out with them (rather than posting.)Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

I would pass them onto a charity who had long term residents. As you say, the smaller ones are more reputable I find. They won't give them to a dog unless the vet has already prescribed it. I have passsed on cat meds where our charity has long term elderly cats on the same (very standardly prescribed) meds.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0
