Aww that's really horrible! I would love it if someone made me a hamper especially with homemade food and drink.
It's not even as if you've just bought jars - you've taken the time to make them and put thought and effort into them, which to me would mean more than a gift voucher or a gift set!

I think the humbugs are a good idea :)

:(oh, own my own, you must feel somewhat deflated. Some people just don't appreciate home-made items (my sister in particular) but then some people consider the monetary value of gifts too much(she does).

Have you asked him what he wants for Christmas? Maybe it will inspire you to make something else for him. If there's any cheese and pickle going spare, I'll have some for my crackers ;)

Maybe you should consider a scrooge or grinch theme :rotfl:
  • Haha good idea LalaGomay! I may just do that..

It's so hard trying to decide each room - never realised how many silly little things you have to think about!

Own my Own - I think you should write a note giving directions to the nearest shop, put it in an envelope with a few pounds, and tell him to pick his own present as he will get exactly what he wants (oh and definitely include a humbug or two!) Should get the message across!

    Thanks Everybody.

I don't know why I let them upset me. Just spoke to dd on the phone, and she reminded about the year we painted jam jars and filled them with sweets. He gave us the jar back after Christmas  It said 'Merry Christmas Grandad 2007 ' What did think we were going to do with it !

On a brighter note, the sixth form college has its open evening next Wed. I am taking the afternoon off work, and when dd gets out of school we are going to Home Bargains. Then Asda after the college. May even fit in Dunelm Mill and Matalan if we don't pick up EVERYTHING we see and look at it :rotfl:

It isn't because they're homemade. He just doesn't do gifts. He gives us all money at birthdays and Christmas .
He lives on his own and has enough money to buy what he wants. Which he does. So there is never really anything he needs.

It's not that he doesn't like our gifts. He just doesn't get why we bother getting them, when he can get them himself.

...and that's the reason I get stuck every year with what to get people :o

My family are like this too.. all better of than us.. when my girls are older i'll gift my time... ie a voucher for a day doing something together but until that time comes they get stuck with the gifts i give them, be it handmade or something silly bought.. We have an unspoken rule of no more than £10 a gift. but with my money saving and bargain skills they get something very often worth 10 times the amount (example this year my mum has a designer watch worth £70 i got it for /£10 in a sale with code stacking)

Im sure he'll smile on the day ;)

Went to my Dads today (WHY OH WHY OH WHY?) and mentioned my werther's vodka, to be told he hated things like that. Vodka should be left alone.

To which I jokingly said, ' Yes its to go with you Cheese and Pickles Hamper' (Which it was)

He actually laughed and said ' F!!! Off , Cheese and Pickle Hamper. If I want cheese and pickles I'll go and bl00dy buy some.'

I think he thought I was joking.

I just get so fed up sometimes. Everytime I try and do something different, nobody here wants to know.

I actually got in the car and cried.

    Oh you poor thing :(

Do you think he's thinking it will be a jar of Branston pickle and a lump of cheddar? When he see's the effort you've gone to he might appreciate the gift and the thought behind it??

I know this has probably been asked before but I don't really have time to look back through 285 pages!! Does anyone know where I can get ribbon saying 'gift from the North Pole' or something along those lines? :-)

Not quite north pole - but it might be worth looking at the east of india stuff - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-LARGE-SELECTION-OF-MERRY-CHRISTMAS-RIBBON-3-M-EAST-OF-INDIA-BERISFORDS-/330776657161?pt=UK_Crafts_Cardmaking_Scrapbooking_Ribbons_Fibres_EH&var=&hash=item4d03d33d09 :)
