This is a tricky one. Where in the country are you?
Popeseye steak (not popeye) is usually very similar to rump, comes from the rear of the animal. Popeseye usually comes from a wee bit further back towards the bum and is more tender than rump.
In Scotland, Popeseye/sirloin/tbone/ribeye is for steak eating.
Rump/stewing/chuck and skirts would be used for stews up here.
Maybe he was just trying to advise you, but if it was rump you wanted you should have stuck to your guns4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
If it was Popeseye, then apparently that is rump steak - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popeseye_steak0

You're looking at an American cow, British ones look slightly different :rotfl:

If you look at both cows, sorry to do this, Popeseye should come from the round. Then look at the brit cow and it's obvious where the rump steak comes from. It is very similar, that's why i said popeseye comes from nearer the bum.
Still giggling at the brit and yank cows :rotfl:4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
find a proper butcher then. i personally do not rate supermarket butchers0

Answer is simple ... go vegetablist.
With the exception of local farmers and home/allotment grown, how many veggies are mass produced?
How many were filled with all sorts of ingredients in the fertiliser and pesticides stages, leaving depleted soil?
How many were picked by people being paid low wages?0 -
He was probably 'pushing' the rib eye that day because it was getting close to it's use by date.
You might feel fleeced (l would) but lesson learned?
I'd still go back - you shouldn't fall out over it - and if he asks tell him you didn't like it, no-one should say it's better than.... because what's good and bad is a matter of taste.
At least if he pushes something else on you, you can just pause, look him in the eye and say 'no thankyou', it's easy when you try.
Happy moneysaving all.0 -
I'd have left in a chilled shelf and gone elsewhere. There's nothing wrong with saying please serve me what I ask for. It's what the staff are there for for goodness sake!0

It should be better, but again it all depends on the quality of the cow and how long its been there for. I find supermarket meat to be poor quality. Ive got a coupl of butchers near me which are much better, and I find its on par price wise if not cheaperSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0
