    Bit of a downer now...

I once saw a guy get knocked down by a car (which wasn't going that fast).

He was literally knocked out of his shoes . Someone picked them up, and gave them to him while he was being stretchered into the ambulance...

so, it always gives me chills when I see shoes lying in the road.

(From now on, I'm going to think of all this thread's alternative reasons for them being there! Much more cheerful :))

I'm glad to hear that something positive has come out of this.

I wonder what the fate of odd shoes are when they process them at shoe banks.

My nephew went on a night out & came back with one shoe, they were new & cost about £80 at the time, I called him Cinderella for ages after :D

I've lost a few bags & a coat, once came back with my leggings on inside out :o

I have lost a sock though (in the house) & it's baffled me completely.

Only one missing sock? I have a big shopping bag of odd socks :rotfl:I keep them in the hope that the others might turn up :o

I lost one shoe at school, I wasn't wearing it at the time though!

    Foxes?

I regularly find single shoes in my back garden and was perplexed until one of my neighbours told me about foxes love for shoes!

It also taught me not to leave shoes outside after I had one stolen by them

Dad used to leave a pair of his old shoes in the open back porch for nipping down the garden in. If I was dashing to get washing in off the line when it started raining, I'd often use his shoes even though they were 4 sizes to large. I went to put them on one day and couldn't get my foot right into one of them. Closer inspection revealed a toad had taken up residence at the toe end!

On holiday a couple of years ago my DH and I got stuck in a downpour on the way back to our hotel room one night, the paths had turned to rivers almost instantly so we were wading through ankle deep water and my flip flops came off and floated away, we managed to save one but the other was lost and was mourned deeply as it was very pretty. A week later on our last night we were walking around and found my lost flip flop in a random flower bed! I like to think that it didn't want to be left alone in a foreign country so came to find us! :p

Had to laugh at this thread! We don't have an issue with shoes here, but it's mainly socks and I'm forever having odd ones!

It also reminds of something that happened a while back. Hubby had got a dentist appointment early one Saturday morning and he decided to walk there. On the way, there was a single glove on the pavement. He was quite scared and didn't want to pick it up on account that it was blue! We had also recently watched that film "The Unborn" on DVD, so all the more reason not to pick it up! (If you've seen the film you'll know what I'm on about). :rotfl:

I cycle a lot. Through town & country on my way home. You'd be surprised at the assorted junk you pass on the side of a road.

My most surreal spot was a single cricket pad.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

There's a village we pass through on the way to see my MIL. Some bright spark has thrown a pair of trainers with the laces tied together over a telephone cable so they are dangling above your head over the road about 20 feet up.
