Cancelling Sky and getting a new contract in Partner's name

I was wondering exactly the same thing. We're with Virgin though and it's in my husband's name. I still use my maiden name and we were considering cancelling and then me phoning up to join. We rent our house so theorectically I could have become a new tenant and he could have moved out?!
They'll check the Electoral Roll and your credit records to see who's been living where, and for how long.
If they catch you lying to them to obtain pecuniary benefit – which is fraudulent – their attitude to you, in their dealings with you, will be a lot less than benign.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

Why dont you just go to sky, virgin and bt basic tv packages are just freeview anyway. want anything decent you have to pay extra and its usually a sky product anyway0

well maybe you should instead just ring Sky and talk to them - a friend was telling me she rang about an offer they were giving to new customers only and she threatened to cancel her phone and broadband becuz there are betr offers elsewhere and they brought her package price down a bit. At least then you won't be doing anything fraudulent and you don't have to worry and you have made at least some saving? I'm gonna review mine because it is getting way to expensive !!! moggy0

My family has done this now for 4-5 years at the same address with a half price discount code from friend who works for Sky (not call centre staff) used every time.
Last time it was cancelled (December 2011) they refused on grounds of 'they knew' what was going on. That was no issue, off to Virgin Media. A month later they rang up offering half price for another year instantly, which just coincided with the VM price rise and free cancellation, back to sky they went for the TV at least, i can not recall a period when i or anyone i know has paid the full Sky price, it simply is not worth the RPP.0 -
why would it be fraud to cancel and then your partner to take a contract out?
they would be a new customer. youre not using a fake name or anything. you are different ppl0 -
Because the contract, at least used to, state that you have never benefited from an introductory promotion either as a customer or as part of a household that benefited.
If you declare you've never benefited when you have then clearly that is a breach of the term.0 -

So, I'm thinking of doing this. My partner moved in 6 months ago....my introductory term was 4 years ago. Clearly he can be counted as a new customer!!?? Sick of paying the world for it and knowing new customers get the deals!!0 -
You're not obliged to pay the rack rate to Sky-you do have that other option called 'cancelling your sub'...No free lunch, and no free laptop

I'll be trying this with Virgin Media when my contract is up.
Just discovered today it appears to be a 12 month contract when I thought it was 18, which is great news.
I highly doubt they will look at electoral rolls, plus if you have opted out of the public versions then they can't see it anyway surely?
The only person who will know is the engineer who comes to your property as unless they have left, it'll be the same one. Unless you are like the above who have done it for 5/6 years and they figure it out.0 -
i asked about this senatrio in an online chat with sky today. They said no problem if first contract had been cancelled. No need to for disconnection til you order new package, you can choose your date to coincide witht he cancellation of the first contract. We've paid cnormal prices for 20 years becasue its in my husbands name and he won't phone up an haggle. I wan to be incontrol, and have the £225 cashback and £100 M&S vouchers. Still be cheaper after 3 years f the cashback tracks, and we will have fibre broadband and movies added to our package0
