Why carbon dioxide is considered harmful? Trees absorb it and produce oxygen. So we should be generating more CO2 so that we get more oxygen.!

Then why are cars taxed on CO2 emission?
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

  • Because CO2 is a greenhouse gas, if we put more into the atmosphere that nature can cope with with screw up the climate.

Nature (trees and sinks) cannot cope with the amount of CO2 we are putting into the atmosphere.

maybe because its easy to measure
and remember we are talking tax here
so if you cant measure it tax it
    more or less
depending which end of the motoring spectrum you are at it might be good or bad

Good point though as CO2 isn't the most harmful of gases to come out of a car so maybe they should move onto a system to take into account everything which comes out of a car's exhaust to try and get the manufactures to reduce those as well.

I suppose the answer that they can call it a green tax and get away with increases "to help the environment" when it's really just to bring in cash (like all so called green taxes) is to simple ?

Nonsense. The number of trees are the limiting factor in photosynthesis, not CO2, there is an excess of CO2.

But to answer your question its an excuse to tax fun cars than aren't silly little econoboxes in the name of climate change.

On next year's tax form you will have to declare how much carbon dioxide you emitted in the past financial year.
