Worth a look at Next Outlet stores or when they have a sale in-store, they clear out their old ranges to make way for new ones.
Another vote for Next from me! We've had ours for a few years and they are still as new, can't fault the quality.
We also picked up a pristine high quality leather sofa from Ebay for £70 - was fun carrying it down 8 flights of stairs when we collected it though :eek:0 -
Thanks for all the posts. I'm a bit weary of auctions for something like a sofa because it's difficult to try out the sofa before bidding, etc Hadn't thought of gumtree but will have a look.
Also hadn't thought of outlet stores but we've not got any locally I don't think. Will have a look though.
So is the general consensus that catalogs (argos, littlewoods, etc) is a definate no no for reasonable quality?0 -
Unless you spend a fortune on genuine hide, most new leather furniture is absolutely cr ap and you may as well buy PVC / vinyl.
I've only ever bought antique/very old furniture for this reason, and always from auctions or antique shops - you get the highest quality for the smallest price - a no-brainer really.
Our leather chesterfield sofa dates from around the 1920's, is in perfect condition apart from the lovely patina of age, will never date, and cost us £120.
It'll outlive us that's for sure.
Of course if you want more 'modern' styles, then it may be a bit more tricky unless you snap up a real 'collection only' bargain on eBay or Gumtree."I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0 -
Thanks, unforuntatly it is a more modern sofa we're looking for really. We not really fussed whether it's leather or PVC because it's mainly for practicality more than anything (due to the dogs so anything other than 'fabric' really.
We don't want to pay a fortune for a sofa and then worry about it getting scratched or anything like that but at the same time we don't want a bargain basement sofa that will only last 12 months.0 -

SofaSofa? As in http://www.sofasofa.co.uk/, which I think is actually a consortium of half a dozen actual sofa manufacturers.0

They're called modular sofa's on there:

I've got Aspen in a normal two seater and a four seater and they're so comfortable! Really impressed with them. Have got three children and two dogs, so they get a fair bit of use, but they still look in good condition. Would certainly buy from them again. Here I go again on my own....0 -
