Where to buy fair priced Sofa's?

Options
We are in the process of buying our first house and should the sale complete successfully we will be looking to buy a new leather corner sofa. We've had a look at a few places online but the likes of DFS and CSL are ridiculously expensive (the only corner sofa we liked was at DFS but was £1899 )

I was just wondering if anyone could suggest a good place to buy sofas at reasonable prices?

You get what you pay for and if you want leather which lasts and doesn't lose colour or take on colour from jeans etc you really do need to pay for it and £1899 probably isn't enough.

you might find something of decent quality on ebay , but you do get what you pay for , i paid £1500 for my 3 piece suite 9 yrs ago and have just had to replace the cushions as they were uncomfortable , one of my friends just got a £199 sofa from homebase last year and it's no good already .
check the quality of the seat/foam , if it's low grade stuff it won't last

I agree with Daveyjp. You can pick up cheap sofas at places like Argos or the Tesco Direct website. I haven't looked for furniture at these places but I've no doubt they will be cheap. The downside is you will probably end up replacing this kind of furniture every couple of years. Whatever you do, avoid cheap leather, a false economy if ever there was one. Daveyjp is also right about the price of decent leather.

Thanks for the posts. How much would you suggest we should be looking to pay for a decent corner sofa then?

The reason we're looking is that the suite we have now is a fabric suite which isn't practical for the dogs (plus it was a hand me down from my dad). We've still got our previous suite which was a 3 seater and 2 seater leather cream leather suite but again that was a hand me down from my wifes nan. This time we want a chocolate brown leather suite.

The fabric one is aweful and has gone horrible due to colour from jeans etc and even cleaning with a carpet cleaner doesn't help much.

I would avoid SCS at all costs, they ripped us off for well over £2300 plus insurance which was next to useless.
Delivered on a Wednesday, foam totally and i mean totally collapsed by the Friday, leather touching front wood beam! Fighting a losing battle trying to get sorted, best offering was to inject foam.

Having worked for a foam maker theres grades of foam and theres grades of foam.

    Auctions, gumtree etc

Theres always houses being repo'd so auctions have a constant supply of furniture, only the best stuff makes it to auction as soild or damaged ain't worth much.

Gumtree always have people selling cheap furniture/giving it away when they are moving house and its to big/to costly to move abroad etc.

Russe11 might be on the right track. A friend has bought good quality leather sofas from Gumtree before. You can also search ebay for items within a certain distance of your home and it might be worth checking the small ads in your local press. This is a bit of a long shot, but if you have an M&S outlet near you, it is probably worth calling in regularly to check their stock. What comes in is very erratic (I think the furniture they sell is customer returns) but you can get some great bargains. Not so long ago I saw a £2K sofa on sale for £150 at an M&S outlet.

Search the Sunday supplements and the Home magazines at of small manufacturers advertise their. But do some research into what makes a good Sofa and that way when a bargain pops up you will be well enough versed to make an informed decision.

We got a large brown leather sofa from Next. We managed to pick it up half-price ex-display. The only hassle was having to hire a van to get it home.

Worth a look at Next Outlet stores or when they have a sale in-store, they clear out their old ranges to make way for new ones.
