When you have had your fingers burnt as many times as I have... I get suspicious of the reflection in the mirror until my eyes focus in the morning hahaha..

It sounds very dodgy... personally I wouldn't pay another penny towards the Ex FiL until he can prove how much is left outstanding and where the rest of the money went.
