I'm afraid she's probably pretty 'normal' or is 'common' the word I'm looking for

While more people are getting the green message it is still a minority... mention washable nappies to her and see how far she runs...

I found that pregnancy actually caused quite a turn about in many of my "right on" friends; people who had been politically active and quite aggressively vegetarian in youth, buying from co-operatives etc, suddenly started buying shed loads of 'disposable' nappies in middle age. Belive me, lapsed greens are a lot more irritating than those who have recently given up smoking (yes, they are that bad) and people seem to use parenting as an excuse for do everything and more that they used to criticise others for.0

I have to say I don't know if I'd use reusable nappies... on that one only time will tell I'm afraid
I struggle enough with the poopacsoopa duty and have to wear rubber gloves as well as use the poop bag when I take the doggy out - not very eco friendly but I can't help it! I can't bring myself to touch it otherwise! And I know I have the same problem when I've helped with friends babies... Other than that we're gradually going greener and greener

Actually you will be able to deal with your own child. I heaved before I had mine and still do at the sight of other children's nappies. Strange though, I managed the grandchildren!0 -
Apparently there was a recent study which found that mothers were able to identify the soiled nappies of their own children by smell because they perceived the odour as being less offensive.0

Yep a minority that cares! The majority don't as they live in a very convenient selfish world, and can't be bothered

I'm afraid you'd still have to deal with poo just as much with disposables! At least with cloth you can just tip it over the toilet and the flushable liner takes most of the yucky stuff with it. Although I agree, most people don't bat an eyelid at their baby's poo
I am also the wierd hippy one in my family who- shock horror- recycles etc.
It would be great if everyone did just a little.
There is a great book called "change the world for a fiver" that is a brill gift for someone like that, it costs £5 (how did you guess) and is beautifully presented with loads of little ideas and touchy feely pull-outs to help you be a bit greener. I got mine from oxfam I think.0
