I have to admit that I was in the 'I can't be bothered' group but that has changed. It started with the use of re usable nappies 6 years ago and slowly we are changing. We use the energy saving bulbs, we recycle the majority of our waste.
The biggest influence has not been the money saved, lightbulbs etc.. but my 6 year old daughter. The school seem to be educating her and recycling is the accepted norm for her.
We are now going to buy a wormery and start growing our own veg and use the waste from the worms as fertilizer. This she thinks is fantastic.
If we educate the young then we won't have to try and convert those that can't be bothered they will do it for us.0 -
i just hope that when my SIL has her child and it starts school they educate him in all things eco and maybe the message might get through to her fingers crossed i thought everyone at least recycled their waste!
soooo my mission is to spread the word

I remember my mum commenting that there was only one other person in the street (out of 8 houses) who put out the blue bag of newspapers for recycling which meant she was less likely to remember to put it out as other people putting their stuff out reminds you to put yours out. She commented that if you drove along the main road in the estate (which is mainly bungalows and therefore generally older people) the majority of people would have put their bags out. She reckons it's a generational thing as people didn't used to waste stuff whereas now we have a throw away society.tinkerbell1978 wrote:i thought everyone at least recycled their waste!
I didn't used to recycle when I lived in a studio flat in a city centre. The reason was that there was supposedly 100% kerbside collection provided which meant that when I tried to find out about places I could take my stuff to recycle, my postcode came up on recycling websites as "you have kerbside collection". I did eventually (after a lot of hassle) manage to get a recycling box but it was only emptied once and I gave up trying to get it emptied.0
