Funny how these changes and cuts always benefit them and not the majority...... It's easy to champion privatisation and austerity cuts when you are sitting on a trust fund, or have the proverbial spoon inserted in your laughing gear :mad:2012 Wins: 1 x Case of Lanson Champagne :beer:0 -
Well we expected a response from physio MRI between 4-8 weeks. To have a response from physio within 3 days was excellent, and looks like the communications between the departments is working (for a change).
I could complain about the amount of time I've sat in A&E over the years, but what's the point, that's a couple of months of my life away that I'll never get back :rotfl:
Usually take 3 days for docs to get their notes typed up, never mind communicate with the other departments involved(In fact, the notes weren't typed up from his dictation from the appointment 3 weeks before and he had to ask us what he recommended last time lol)
For a change I'm impressed with them4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Glad someone's had a good experience at the hands of the NHS - contrasts with the utter nightmare I've had to endure... which I probably won't ever fully forget or come to terms with.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

The NHS has problems, working with an increasingly unhealthy population, higher life expectancies (part of the NHS's success is that people live longer, so cost more), and more expensive new treatments. The dream/ideal behind it is still wonderful and we are all luck to HAVE A CHOICE. Goater's choice is to pay a supplement covering some problems, but we all have access to some pretty incredible resources free at the point of consumption.
Goater, whilst you have a choice how you spend and what you protect with your cash, something to bear in mind is that the private sector tends to spend on stuff that impresses on the surface - comfy beds, flat TV's etc., but when there's a real emergency people get routed back into the NHS (eg if you tripped over after some beers tonight, you won't end up in a private BUPA room but in A&E like everyone else - or if you have a private operation that goes bad, leading to blood poisoning, you'll almost certainly be moved to intensive care courtesy of the NHS - the private hospitals just don't have the full range of facilities.0 -
I'm fortunate to have only ever used the NHS GP service. And it's hopeless. Just under 4 weeks to wait for a routine GP appointment is absolutely ridiculous.
My poor Mum ? Misdiagnosed with "women's troubles" for two whole years ... when she actually had stomach cancer. I think that mis-diagnosis killed her ... and even if it didn't kill her, it certainly ended her life prematurely.
My Granny ? Fell, broke her hip, she ended up in a squalid little ward, in little better than a tarted up nissen hut. That's where she contracted E-Coli, from the muck they fed her. And don't even start me on the attitude of the staff, angels most are not.
NHS ? A joke of a health system.0 -

Although its true that if i tripped over tonight and broke my leg I would be sent to a NHS hospital if I actually required any treatment my healthcare would provide a private ambulance to take me to the local private hospital after the original admittance. This means that if someone else broke their leg that night who didn't have private healthcare then an NHS bed would not be taken up by myself.
I am not that bothered in provoking a debate into how much better private healthcare is than the NHS, my point is that with the NHS massively overstretched, then if you can afford it you should pay for private healthcare as that will reduce the burden on the NHS.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. HaHa was impressed last week. This week I'm feeling a wee bit miffed.
DD has applied for DLA due to her conditions...Just got a letter from hospital confirming she was under Mr. Consultant's name for a weber fracture to her ankle.
Which isn't true!!!!
She was under him for the broken ankle, but has been discharged and now under the same consultant for the dislocations/patella alta/HMS

I have not had any major isues with the local NHS services.
I am under the Neuro dept for cluster headaches, I got an appt within 3 days of referral. The MRI took place 5 days later and I have regular appts which are all on time, never delayed.
I went into hospital in September when I got hit in the face with a tree branch, which developed into celulitis. within arriving in A&E and getting to the ward was a total length of 1.5 hours. I was in 4 days and the staff and conditions were excellent.
All Govts mess with the NHS, tories are no different. Labour say they are the party for the NHS, but look what shambles they got it into last time around. They spend too much, but don't watch how the money is being spent ( Whats the use of hospital managers? , how many do they need?)
we should all be glad that we don't live abroad, some of the state hospitals are hideous, why do you think half of Europe come over here for treatment?( slight exageration I know) We get told to have travel insurance when we go away, why can't they?0 -
I know everyone gets very protective about the NHS but really they are absolutely useless. I've had to use them in the past and they are an absolute shambles, the hospitals are run down, the staff are underpaid and overworked and the waiting lists are ridiculous.
I realise they not everyone can afford it but if you can I think that these days paying for private healthcare is almost essential.
Unless you work in private healthcare and realise that behind the scenes no o e gives a sh*t about the patients and it's all about the £££££££Wildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys. :heartpuls

Not sure thats true. In my experience the private medical care I have received has always been excellent.
Of course as its a business they are in it to make money but I don't think its impossible to provide good patient care and make a profitThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
