Our good old NHS certainly does come under some scrutiny (quite rightly some of the time) so I thought I would share a positive experience.
As some of you know, my DD has had problems with her knees/ankles for a while, often dismissed when she's had knee dislocations.
After years of travelling back and forth to fracture clinic. We finally got a diagnosis from a young German doctor who wasn't afraid to give a name to her condition, Patella Alta. He waited 3 weeks for the swelling to go down. Then we went again on Tuesday. He wasn't happy with her knee, so is arranging an MRI scan and physio.
Roll on to Friday. Appointment in the post for her physio to start on 8th May. Well done NHS. 3 days to get appointment sorted and letter out. And for treatment to be starting so soon. Makes a change from all the different waiting lists you have to go on :T:T:T:T

Enjoy it while it lasts. Once Smug Dave and Andrew La-la-land have carved up the NHS and outsourced it to all the private healthcare companies that the Tory cronies have invested in, you'll be hanging around for ever whilst https://www.kneereplacements4u.com and the NHS squabble about payments and paperwork."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

Oh it usually takes much longer than 3 days for an appointment to come through though. Doc reckoned it would take 6-8 weeks
And I have no doubt the NHS will end up in a state like it did the last time.
Unfortunately knee replacement wouldn't fix itIt's going to take knee reconstruction, but i get what u meant

Great to hear some good news regarding the NHS for once especially after having the misfortune to have had to attend my local casualty department recently, what a shambles that was and they weren't even busy at the time.0

I know everyone gets very protective about the NHS but really they are absolutely useless. I've had to use them in the past and they are an absolute shambles, the hospitals are run down, the staff are underpaid and overworked and the waiting lists are ridiculous.
I realise they not everyone can afford it but if you can I think that these days paying for private healthcare is almost essential. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Not my experience at all. The NHS has it's faults certainly and I can only see this getting worse but after various health problems in the past year I have very few complaints with my treatment.

I find the NHS depends on which part of the country you live in. If you live near a newer hospital you tend to get a better service.
If people want to save the NHS then if they can afford it they should pay for private healthcare. The NHS although available to all should only really be used by people who can't afford to pay for private healthcare. This would reduce the burden on the NHS and improve the service it provides.
I would like to see the government introduce something that says if you are a higher rate tax payer then you must pay for private healthcare insurance. It is not feasible to think that in 20 years time the NHS can provide free healthcare to the entire population. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The problem isn't the NHS; it's successive governments tinkering and faffing with it. And the fact that we're all old and fat these days and need more care than we did 50 years ago."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

... is a specious argument that's been shown to fail time and again. It's a bit like saying 'if you want a decent public transport system, drive a car'. The fact is, the fewer people that use a service the less money is invested in it and it rapidly becomes second-rate and neglected."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

I don't think it has been shown to fail time and time again. The nhs is underfunded for the people it treats. If it received the same funding but less people used it then it is obvious that the service levels would be better.
I don't like comparing different totally different areas like the nhs and public transport as they are completely different. Public transports problems stem from too many people using an antiquated system and the fact that when trains were first developed they discarded the Brunel rail gauge in favour of stephensons. A decision we are still paying for todayThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
