I can't believe this rain. I dug a hole 2 feet deep to check the depth of a drain pipe (goes from road to sewer). Anyway, this morning it was 5" short of full. Now it is full. What? And it is still raining. I reckon the garden will be a swamp at this rate. My house is built on a concrete float foundation. I worry what this damp will do to the ground.

Getting silly now in the northern Home Counties. Rained for pretty much 24 hours, cold gusting wind. It's more like November.

I dont recall April being so wet like this I think we only had a few days of dry days, last Sunday being one.

5 years ago, we had a blazing hot April and it rained for about 6 weeks solid after. We had an apple tree that was already leaning over [it was a good 200 years old] and the rain that year loosened the soil so much that it was waving about so much we had to get it chopped down or it would have fallen over and probably would have broken the sides of the canal as it went. Loads of people's potatoes in the fields just disintegrated when harvested and we had an absolutely rubbish growing year. The river was across the banks and across the neighbouring fields for weeks, we would go out at 9pm each night on floodwatch and the houses that the river backed onto had swans and ducks swimming in circles outside their back windows.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

Well that's made me feel better, not!
I've had 4 weeks so far, it's dry today :D but tipping down again tomorrow and my clay soil is at saturation point.

I've got more spuds to plant yet, should I put them in buckets rather than the ground?
Have grown them in buckets before and got a smaller yield than I do in the ground but would rather that than rotted spuds.

Taken from netweather for tonight into tomorrow:
Some of the rain will be torrential and thundery, particularly in southern regions(yes it will be very heavy over annie123 in London), so further localised flooding and difficult conditions for travel are possible. There is some uncertainty over the northerly extent of the rain, with some models taking it into northern England (but still stopping short of Scotland), others taking it no further north than the Midlands, so stay tuned for updates on this.

Its no wonder us british are obsessed with discussing the weather when we can get so many different weather patterns accross such a small island lol.
After the rain over the weekend it has been glorious sunshine all day here. It is 86 degrees in the greenhouse lol.
Been sat in a t-shirt potting on seedlings and spent virtually all day in the garden. The chooks are sunbathing as we speak.

Everywhere in the garden things are budding and flowering, insects everywhere and the birds are singing away (we think we have a nesting pair of bluetits in our bird box as well). All in all a lovely spring/early summer day.
Hope May picks up for those of you still sat in the rain.

Got a lovely roast chicken in the oven and am considering having it with salad and sitting in the garden to eat.

wow it's actually really nice here today. Finally got a chance to get down the bottom of the garden to water the greenhouse, things were getting a bit dry in there.
Not managed to get anything in the garden yet, except tates and garlic, everything is still in the greenhouses.
Remember never judge someone that makes a mistake, because in six months time it may be you that makes the next mistake.

Is this to help it grow? :)

I have had my tomatos outside for about three weeks, in baskets, with no ill effects (that I can tell).

Well over Friday Night and Sat morning it was freezing, I know I was camping, and the car and boat had frost when I got up at 5:30 as I was freezing. The daytime temp was very pleasant, I was out on the loch fishing and the fish were biting and the water temp has risen since a fortnight ago. Sunday, max temp was 7 that is the max and when the wind blew it felt much colder, still it was dry.

Today it is chucking it down, actually heard someone say "aye the garden needs it" which always makes me laugh, cause honestly it rained on Friday too.
