Aye that'll be like the barbecue summer we had last year. The one where if you went out on the bike yer nose went numb from the heat and dripped all day and yer hands went blue from the heat... :rotfl:0

I notice a few people have Toms in greenhouse / blowaways. Can I ask if you are leaving them out all night yet? If so where about are you / what are the over night temps like? Are you heating greenhouse?
I'm in Scotland (Edinburgh area) this week the temp at 6:00a.m. has been 1 - 2, which is still way to cold for my Toms to be risked being left out over night.
I have left some plants out, mainly beding plants, Pansy, petuina's, etc, sweet peas and they seem to be doing ok. So might see how a Tomato or pepper plant fair, but I just think the overnight temps are to low at the moment.0 -
Yes, leaving EVERYTHING in the greenhouse now overnight with no fleece, all seedlings, most establised plants, plugs, salad in greenhouse borders etc.
This is Cardiff where night temps are between 7 and 10degrees at present.0 -
7 -10 that is more like it.... I'm off camping this weekend so will see how cold it really is :-)0

My stuff is still indoors. Just planted squashes and courgettes in the lounge, and sprouted peas to go in the unheated greenhouse in loo rolls for when the floods subside.
The kitchen floor is covered in soil and the house has that "Just after rain" smell.
Got so many tomatoes and tomatillos on my windowsills that someone I know asked if they were "dodgy" plants.
Going to plant french beans in pots after sprouting them in two weeks time. Hopefully the rains will have eased and the frosts ended by then!0 -
It's getting annoying now, day after day of wet and too cold to really get growth under way.
The only small compensation is that the tulips have kept their petals far longer than last year IMHO0 -
Mardy - I'm imagining you lying on your side like 'La Maja' with the tin foil all round you slowly turning very pink :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
If its any consolation is still p***ing down in Hampshire & blowing a VERY stiff cold wind. I put my climbing beans in a month ago & protected them with a sort of cloche but they havn't moved - I keep checking but I think its just too cold yet. I've got K*** & Sprouts & they're just sitting there too

Well in Lancs up here and we have had a nice March/April. Until today can't remember the last time it lashed down all day.
We had alot of mild days where it was cloudyish in the morning (with occasional short showers) and then blasting sun in the afternoon. I even got sunburnt from a day in the garden a couple of weeks ago .
My (unheated) greenhouse and blowaway are full.Outside the rubbarb looks fab and in my small fleece tunnel have carrot/beets/raddish/spring onions on the go. All my herb pots are sprouting madly, garlic looks great and my fruit trees have been covered in flowers/blossom with a fair few bees and insects about. Even got a few green currants on the redcurrant bushes. Will probably get a first harvest of salad leaves and radishes in the next couple of weeks and have been able to take some fresh herbs already.
Mind you we seem to have a bit of a microclimate here, and haven't had a hard frost since about mid feb and not even a mild ground frost since early March. We are semi rural and just up the lane their are fields and fields that will be filled with crops soon so I suppose must be a good area to grow stuff.
So I suppose what you have to do is grow in an area for a few years and find out what sort of climate you get in your area and fit around that and be ready for those good years when the growing season seems to get longer.
Next year down south you will probably be baking this time of year whilst we will be being washed away with the April showers lol.
Ali x
BTW anyone else had alot of lady birds? Seem to have loads here already.
The currant may just be green flower buds having looked again lol."Overthinking every little thing

I dont recall April being so wet like this I think we only had a few days of dry days, last Sunday being one. I have hardly anything growing much hardly any seeds have come up in raised beds they been there for 3-4 weeks. I got some radish been there about 6 weeks and very small leaves. I have some shallots that are doing okay though. I lost some bought plants as they were a soggy mess. I almost given up planting any seeds now might have to buy in more plants. I normally have some hanging baskets ready by now but its no so much the rain as the cold that seems to be doing the harm. Today its cold, rain and windy
We dont have a drought where I am and reservoirs are 90% full
