How about a nice new phone and webdock for £260.

A decent android phone will set you back £150-200 so seems like a good option if you combine it with a cheap sim only contract.
You can buy my Samsung N145 netbook ;-)

    Indeed!
I have an Asus Eee with a 1.66 Ghz Atom processor - I find it fast enough. It's a 'Pine Trail' one too, so exceptionally frugal on power. However the charger lead became intermittent due to a broken wire after just 10 months, and Comet wouldn't replace it. I'm looking for a cheap (new) replacement, either car or mains.

It's always good to have 3G(and upwards) capability, for when WiFi availability is scarce or when you want a bit more privacy.

The Kindle Keyboard 3G will give you that. Browsing the web on it isn't the most pleasant of experiences, but at least you don't have to pay through the nose for your connectivity.

If I was going for a netbook I wouldn't go for an Atom device I'd go for an AMD C-60. I'd go for the Acer Aspire One 722. 11.6 inch screen £244 roughly, full version of windows 64bit. A lot more useful than an ipad and half the price.

I looked at this and it's a nifty Netbook and good choice if you like Windows, but for Linux users such as me, there seem to be hardware compatibility issues.

Usually a lack of drivers; some hardware developers are notoriously tight-lipped about their products and will only provide full specifications under NDA.

This is all fine and dandy to proprietary software developers such as Microsoft, but for open-source types it's a bit of a problem. They want all their code out in the open where everyone can see it.

Listening to music through rather chunky speakers and posting here too without apparent compromise. That is with a N270.

Honestly, what a load of guff about processors. The OP asked about web and emails, not video editing.

Girlfriend bought an MSI U135 with a six cell battery for £130 from Argos Outlet . Stopped using the laptop altogether.

TakeThis-Which sub £200 netbook would you recommend for browsing and Tweeting?
