female dogs and lawns do not go together! as for astro turf be careful it is very expensive and your dogs would probably tear it to pieces.
  • Just wanted to add my tuppence worth.....

Firstly my garden has been trashed by my chihuahua and Bichon/westie (or Beastie as he is now known:) )

Ive just bought a load of grass seed from asda, £1.70 i think. Not done anything special with it, just thrown it all over the lawn, the rain seems to have squashed it into the mud so hopefully it will grow :)
Thats my greenfingeredness for you !

With regards the dangerous dog issue..

Firstly im really peeeeeeeeed off that this thread got ambushed and torn apart about an issue that was nothing to do with the thread. However now it has been i have to tell you that my Chihuahua should be put on the dangerous dog list!!!

She attacks everybody that enters the house and cant go off the lead because she attacks other dogs.

She has been known to attack my neighbours Staffy.
It was quite amusing to see her dangling off the staffy's ear and the staffy trying to lick her to death!!! (have to say i havnt let her off the lead since)

    OOOHHHH Shall i repeat that???

THE BIG SCARY DANGEROUS EVIL STAFFY (not) was trying to LICK my evil chihuahua to death!!! while my chihuahua was drawing blood from its ear!

    SO There!!

Each dog is different, u cant generalise about the breed type!

Agree with you about going off topic but unfortunately owners of bull breeds, rotties etc are always going to be put in this position by the type of comments made which unfortunately come from a lack of understanding, experience and education on certain breeds so its wonderful to see owners and non owners defending the breeds and I will continue to do so as long as I can draw breath!!:T

Anyway that said - back on topic Hay - we have the exact same problem in our garden, and we have decided the only way forward is to section of part of the garden for the dogs and pave it over.

dogs, rain and grass do not mix IMO!:p
  • Ive been looking at the fake grass as well but it does seem pretty pricey and to be honest I think they would just rip it up, :( so we are going to lay some nice slabs and "pretty" it up a bit with big pots and some nice statues etc :)

my garden at the mo looks like a mud bath and I cant wait to get it nice to be able to enjoy it, we are prob going to turf/seed over our half as I dont really want the entire garden paved.
  • My sister and brother-in-law have the fake grass in there back garden which is were the dogs play and they have had no problems with there 2 staffordshire bull terriers ripping it or anything so I am going to go for it - we dont need a huge amount as we are going to deck part of the garden - fake grass part and then pave part.

There are some pretty big offcuts for sale on ebay and the suppliers supply crufts.
  • sorry to sound a bit dim but how does it work with the dogs wee? does it soak through? I mean even if you wash it down does it not build up a bit underneath and smell?

It would be a better option than putting lawn down on our section because I would like the dogs to be come and go with us when we are in the garden

The company I posted the link to guarantee the lawns for 5 years. They said ANY damage to it and they'll fix it.As for the wee he said it washes off with the rain or you can hose it off and it soaks away through the membrane and sand base without smell. Also easier to clean poo off~can just imagine me out there with my vileda supermop:rotfl: Could even hoover it after the kids have had a picnic:p
    New Year~New Start!!
Getting on back on the moneysaving wagon in 2009!

    January grocery challenge~ £400 Spent £49.55
    £100 clothes for a year~Spent £0
  • Won't somebody please think of the children!!!!!!!!!!

There's always sensationalist nonsense that finds its way into the weaker minds of our species.

There's no such thing as a bad dog, only a bad owner - thats the fact of it. If you have a kid whose bad and steals, punches other kids etc would you blame the kid or the parent?

    I rest my case.

Oh by the way that post was for you emmaroids. Incidentally, your name hints spookily at what your narrow minded opinion does to people.
