anything you send to the paypal spoof email address automatically sends a message back saying it is spoof even when its not
    I find this dubious.

If that were the case and the sent you an email because they'd clawed back something from your account and left it -ve, and wanted 'their' money back, they would tell you that the message was a spoof.

    Seems pretty unlikely.

It might well be real as had been said especially as it directs you to log in at paypal.com rather than use a "special" link.

I know it shows paypal.com email addresses but did you check the source of the message source/origin and the return path? Sometimes legitimate email addresses can be in the main message and "from" line but when you go into the source, it gives a totally different origin.

I suspect it's something to do with the Ebooks you've been warned about before.

There is a publisher called Luna something or other, maybe they hold the rights to some written material and have never made the copyright public.

It is very possible that both ebay *and* paypal have been contacted by Luna, ebay warning you about listings, and paypal threatening to close your account. Incidentally paypal can close accounts if that account is being used to take money where the source is doubtful, if someone is claiming you are selling items dishonestly or without license/permission then paypal, like any other financial institution, will ask you to prove otherwise or close you down.

    Sounds phishy to me too.
    The first line..
We appreciate the fact that you chose PayPal to send and receive
    payments for your transactions.

Is that the best english that a company the size of Paypal could come up with for a template?
    Be nice

Yep, unfortunately that is standard paypal talk and i don't think it reads particularly badly.

    I have.

About 3 hours ago and no response yet, so if they are auto bouncing them they have added a delay to make it seem as if they've actually looked at it.

If they do send it back confirming it's a spoof, I think I might try this biro thing.

Do you remember when paypal were running a game of some sort? Well, I firstly thought the email was a phish and sent it to them and they confirmed it was.

I then sent the follow up emails as well, all of which were returned as phishes. I then got an email asking me for the headers, so i sent them in and never heard another word. By that time of course I realised they really were paypal emails :rotfl:
