Wages at supermarkets

who would have thought it, Lidl and Aldi pays more than bigger businesses such M&S0

Lidi and Aldi staff do everything e.g one minute you're stacking a shelf then hopping on a till then sweeping the floor, back on the till etc. Not like Tesco where you're just sitting on the checkout all day long doing just one job. That was the reason I was told at a Lidi interview a few years ago at why the pay was £7.40 p/h.0

the reason the pay at aldi and lidl is because they want you work quickly, if your on the till they want you to scan the shopping fast and when theres no customers you get off the till and tidy the shelves, when your putting the stock onto the shelf you need to do it quick, if your called to get on the till you jump on quick and get off asap, if you scan the shopping quick when your on the till they wont moan at you but if you do about 800 items an hour and you ahve been there for 4 months theyll ask you 2 speed it up, apart from that its good pay
if you think about it if M&S/tesco didnt have a discount card then the money they would save on that would then increase the payNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
There are a lot of benefits working at M&S, my personal situation means that I don't use most of them whereas some of my work colleagues use a whole load of them and they seem really happy with what they get. Sometimes I wish they would take the benefits away and just increase my pay by a decent amount but I know that won't happen anytime soon! Not the discount card though, I would like to keep that!0

Hi there, do you have to work in a supermarket. I did some cleaning (private house) a while back as it fitted in with my committments. I got £7 an hour. Obviously there is no pension or NI. Wasn't earning enough to pay tax, as I am a full time mature student. Good luck with your job seeking. LB :T0

Waitrose and John Lewis pay is quite high for retail I would imagine.
