I've heard Lidls is the best paid supermarket job but don't know this for sure - is there anyone who works for Lidls can tell us?

I went for an interview for them about 15 years ago and the going rate was £7 per hour even then, so it must have gone up since then.

To be honest, it sounds like the wages for supermarkets are very low. I am surprised!!

Just had a look at the lidl site - it says up to £7.80.
  • Aldi's and Lidl's are some of the best payers. There was a time when if you worked on the check out you had to memorise all the prices, but they are scanned now just the same as other supermarkets, only they pay better.

Aldi a couple of years ago were offering about £9.00 an hour while I worked in a local supermarket Booths for minimum wage!

What about working in a school? Kitchen staff get £5.78 an hour. Non teaching staff get around the £6.50 at level 1.

Not a surprise to me I'm afraid. Of all industries retail is the worst paid other than hotels/catering/pubs. Why I don't know, the jobs involved need the ability to relate to and communicate with people and require honesty, flexibility and hard work. That's life I suppose.
