Enquiry with Lloyds Bank re PPI

I telephoned Lloyds Bank on Saturday to ask who to contact to get information about loans I had through the bank so that I could start a PPI claim. The lady on the telephone took all the loan numbers and started a claim for me over the phone. I should receive a letter within 5-10 days and their decision within 8 weeks. Seemed very helpful but does it work like this?
Would you advise that I independently prepare the information on my old loans and Mastercard in preparation for a rejection? If so who do I contact.
I've just checked and at the same time I had loans through Lloyds, I had an Income Proection Policy, a life insurance policy and a critical illness policy all taken out through Scottish Widows in my bank. I also worked for a university and then the NHS so my illness cover was very good.
I obtained my first loan when I was very young and was convinced that I had to have the PPI to help get the loan and every loan since was the same, should they even have tried to sell it to me taking into account the other policies I had at the time?
Thanks for any advice

You should not have been sold PPI policies if you had other insurance that covered you. Do you have evidence of the other insurance you had at the time?0

I've got the insurance policy numbers but I don't think I've got the actual paperwork any more. I don't know if I could get copies from Scottish Widows but I spoke to them today to ask what each of the policies were and they were quite happy to tell me.0

I would ask for copies of your policy documents from Scottish Widow in which you can then send copies to Lloyds so they have no excuse to not refund you the premiums you are owed!!

Hi CURRC,
I'm pretty much in the exact same position as you. I had a chain of 4 loans all with PPI attached from 2001-04, aswell as having a LloydsTSB Income Protection Policy in place at the same time. Like you, I made the initial phonecall (2nd April) and was told I needn't do anything further. However, when I rang back in the following week with the info about having an Income Protection Plan running concurrently, they weren't so helpful.
I asked for some advice here, and was advised at that point to fill out the FOS PPI Questionnaires for each complaint. I filled them in and sent them with copies of the loan agreements/IP policy and a covering letter (recorded delivery), just so they had the full picture.
There's nothing to say you won't be successful with the one phone call, but I would look into getting copies of your agreements if poss, should they stall.
From what you've said, it sounds like you've got a good chance of a payout to me!

If you write to the bank asking for info on your loans do you put your bank account number on the letter or do you have to list the loan agreement numbers?
Thanks in advance0 -
Scottish Widows do not retail a PPI product. If there is income protection on the SW plan then it will be PHI, not PPI. PHI is designed to tailor in with your employers sickness benefits and not overlap. The Life and CI benefit has no overlap with employer benefits (life could most people are underinsured on life assurance and death in service is really there to cover lost income and pension entitlement. Not lump sum repayment).
So, making a PPI complaint about a non PPI product is not a good idea. If you have a complaint about the other products then fair enough but you will need to tell us what they are.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Hi dunstonh,
If I'm correct, I think CURRC meant that they had cover in place from Scottish Widows at the time they had taken the loans, hence not needing PPI (a reason for mis-sell), not that they want to complain about SW products.
Likewise for myself...0 -
I also worked for a university and then the NHS so my illness cover was very good.
What do you mean by "very good"? Is it not six months full pay, six months half pay then you are on your own?
How would you have managed if you had fallen ill and never been able to work again?
As DunstonH says, if it is from Scottish Widows, the income protection policy will be Permanent Health Insurance, NOT PPI. Depending on how it was set up, it could pay out for forty years or more.
However, if you have complained that you have been missold PPI when you do not actually have it, don't be surprised if your complaint is rejected.0 -
That's exactly what I meant. Lloyds recommended I spoke to the Scottish Widow Reps and I obtained 3 different policies - Critical Care, Income Protection and Life Insurance, so I was definitely covered enough to ensure I could still pay any loan repayments if I lost my job, which was highly unlikely considering where I worked.0
