Thank you guys for your helpful inputs.
I'm planning to set automatic monthly top-up for the goodybag of £10/month.
So I don't bother myself remembering to top-up...etc.
Giffgaff said my sim is on the way.
This is what i will do:
sim arrives tomorrow.
I ask 3 for the PAC code.
Activate giffgaff
click on the link where it says "keep my number@ and follow instructions.
Number should be transferred next day or on Monday when request submitted on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
Is it possible or has it happened in the history that you lose ur number forever? giffgaff has no stores or offices... what if it closed down?!0 -
There is no way the current uk 3g network banwidth can offer unlimited internet. This may change when 4g/LTE comes into play sometime this year or maybe next.0

Good luck. I ended up screaming down the phone at Three to give my my PAC because they wouldn't listen and kept trying to get me to take other deals. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Unfortunately you cannot set the system to automatically buy goodybags (yet!) you can only set it to auto top up normal credit. GiffGaff do send you an email when your current goodybag is about to expire and your next one (if purchased) is about to kick in. Use that as a reminder to log in in the next few days and buy another goodybag so its stacked up ready. Once you register your credit card against your account it literally takes a few clicks/seconds to do a month. (I just have to confirm the security code on the back of the card and I'm done)
I don't know why some people report lower internet speed. I have run broadband speed tests on both phone and laptop on GiffGaff and O2, exactly the same in my area.0 -

Regarding OP, in my current research into mobile operators (trying to extricate myself from Vodafone) and previous experience with the earlyish days of 'unlimited' dial-up internet from around 1998 to 2001ish, companies offering unlimited connection/data rarely last that long before going bust, often have terrible customer service if at all, presenting you with more headaches and support calls than it's worth, and you're a lot better off in the long run going with the physical provider, not the virtual one, and adding a bit of data to your monthly bill. Virtual operators may be worth your while if you're on PAYG and have the ability to jump around between networks as the short-term deals suit you, but it can be far more hassle than it's worth in order to save a few quid which you'll probably spend anyway on the phone to them for support calls or requesting your PAC.
The UK's physical network operators are: Everything Everywhere (Orange/T-Mobile alliance), O2, Vodafone, 3 (3G only, uses Orange/EE's 2G network in selected areas). Everyone else is a virtual operator and piggybacks onto these four networks.
How did you manage to burn through 1GB of internet "quickly"? Are you using YouTube all the time? Do you not have wifi at home to connect to? Or a PC/tablet at home to use to stop hammering your data allowance?0 -

I used all of the 1GB when I was away in a holiday.
I did a lot of browsing and had lots of football applications that keep fetching data and i once tried to download a game which was around quarter GB.
Unlimted internet from Giffgaff comes second to me. I am switching to them because they give 250 minutes for 10 quids while three gives only 100 and i finish them so quickly.
Virgin mobile got nice 30 days contract for £7 and gives 125 minutes but they give 250mb of internet which is not enough.
I can manage with 1 GB internet but 100 minutes are few to me and giffgaf was the best when it comes to short term contract.0 -

I've used giffgaff for about 12 months and never had a problem with data usage. I don't abuse it or download massive files over 3G, so if you are sensible, there shouldn't be a problem, ever!
As for topping up. I find the best way to do this so it doesn't cause hassle is to queue your next goodybag in advance.
For eg, buy your £10 goodybag, then queue the next one immediately. Giffgaff works out the dates, etc. So as long as you remember to queue one each month, you'll never be without a connection.
If anyone wants my giffgaff link and get £5 free credit, please send me a PM.0 -
Resources are finite and it is difficult to assess if providers offer substantial amounts when they claim to be "unlimited".
When I had a Android phone I would often go over 1GB data.0 -
timberflake wrote: »It's as good as unlimited though. I know of people who have used 20gb in a month and never had a problem. Whilst there may be a fair use policy which would be more than 20gb, it's essentially unlimited as you'll never have a need to use that much.
Try using 20gb most months and you will see what happens.0
