My Experience claiming back PPI

I have attempted making a PPI claim myself following advice from MSE with a few of the high street banks and this is what happened.
I went to the bank initially to try and get the agreement numbers for the loans I'd had with them, this was easy as the banks gave me the info I needed there and then. I then told the bank that I wanted to make a claim for mis-sold PPI and they gave me a number to call.
When I arrived home I rang the number, press 1 if your a claims management company, press 2 if your a client. I pressed 2. After waiting 37 minutes I gave up and decided to call back but this time to press option 1, this took 3 minutes for me to speak to a gentleman who asked me why I wanted to make a cliam.
I explained that I had been told by the bank that I had to take PPI to get the loan and this is why I wanted it back. The guy then asked me a few questions like, when did you take the loan? I told him that it was a while ago and I could not remember. His response was to question how I could remember what I had been told when I took out the loan if I could not remember taking it in the 1st place.
The gemtleman then offered to send me some paperwork through the pos to complete to process my claim. When the paperwork arrived I was shocked to see ho much work I would have to do to get back what I know I am owed.
I understand that the banks do not want to pay back this money but I honestly feel that I have been asked to do a lot of work, put myself through a lot of stress and take a lot of time to put right an error that has been made by the bank .
After looking at the paperwork and realising what is reuqired I decided to instruct a claims management company to manage my claim. I am 5 weeks into my claim through the management company and I already have an offer in place. I am aware that if I had done it myself that I would not have to pay a fee but I feel that the stress and time it would take to do it my self is worth paying 25% for and I would reccommend anyone to use a cliams management company. :j

Claims companies can be useful for those who do not wish to do it themselves:TNot all CMC`s are the same....:A0

Can I ask what 'work' they wanted you to do? When Santander contacted me I had to fill out a simple questionaire, took 10 minutes to complete, returned it the same day.0

OMG how narrow minded. If you read any of my previous comments all over here you will realise i will help for free as anybody who is on this forum would not want the services of a CMC`s so i think "touting for business" is quite frankly obsurd:rotfl:Not all CMC`s are the same....:A0 -

I do apologize to you
:o this was the first post I read that you had posted to, I have read your other posts now and I did wonder why you would help people if you were for a claims co
It was odd that you replied to the op that claims companies can help, there is nothing hard about making a reclaim yourself and a claims co can not do any more than you can do yourself for free.
My apologies do not extend to the original poster, they had all the info to make the claim and I want to know what was "hard" about the claim that they could not do and had to pay someone else to do for them.0 -
Not all claims are so easy though are they? take GE Money or First Plus for example. these guys will give anybody the run around for months and beleive me we have had customers come to us after trying to deal with these muppets who have just about lost the will to live !I do apologize to you

Not all claims are easy at all. Blackhorse are a nightmare especially if PPI was sold pre 2005. I had a case of someone been sold PPI when he had a heart operation so therefore the insurance was useless, but they would not listen as it was sold before they were registered. The claim carried on and went around in circles for months but I did not give up and eventually got a full offer for the man. GE and First Plus are also rubbish as they do not sell direct to the public and use mostly brokers.:T0 -

We seem to be under siege, all these CMC reps coming out of the woodwork. Martin obviously has them fearing for their profit margins!
