*Sigh* I want to buy a DVD that is NOT a copy!! Why are there so many??

Having been the victim of buying a fake DVD in the past it just drives me nuts to see so many 'not sures'. Many people who get stu8ng by this (and yes me included) do not leave feedback because they do not want counter neg or neutral against their accounts because these people have no hesitation in leaving them but how on earth can you tell what isgenuine and what isn't? The ones I am guessing are not are going for up to £30 and the genuine ones are being sold for £55 upwards.
I am guessing it has to do with the amount of description in the specifics at the top if the listing and also the extra descriiption - some have these and some d not. I am looking for a DVD from Disney that is no longer available to buy in the shops ad I am searching and finding about 80 listings and so far only 1 that I have looked through SEEMS to be genuine because it has this extra bit in Specifics and the bit at the bottom which gives extra details.
Sure they all say they are 'new and sealed' but maybe eBay should have a check box tht says 'is genuine hologram intact' or something because don't all of the originals have the hologram and this is not on copies is it? If it is not on it can't be listed and then if you get a fake one eBay should be able to follow this up with instant suspension or something. I don't know, I am just tired of spending ages looking.
Just HOW can you tell if something is a fake apart from with FB being left which most people do not do. I don't want a fake DVD - just one from a private seller who does not want it anymore so it is a bit cheaper but the DVD new and sealed is retailing at anything up to £85 on eBay and £55 on Amazon. Eek!!!!!
Edit: Oh yes and imports. How on earth can you tell if it is an import? I am sure someone who knows can help me out here, please.

I don't buy fakes. In the past I did buy one which was described as a genuine copy imported from the far east - I though this would be ok but it turned out to be a fake in a better box.
So I don't buy any dvds at all from ebay now. To be honest there are so many good internet retailers around that by the time you have added the ridiculous postage people charge on ebay it's often cheaper to buy from a proper seller.
I always use a dvd-specific shopbot so I know I'm getting a good price. The one I find the best is http://www.find-dvd.co.uk/Oh dear, here we go again.0 -
Have you tried looking at amazon marketplace? often much cheaper and people on amazon aren't shy about leaving neg feedback if they have bought a fake. Also their a-z guarantee system means you will be refunded if sold a fake!
Also, a point worth mentioning, if it is selling at the 55-85 price it probably is as thats what it is now worth, so expect to pay possibly upto 75% of that price for 2nd hand. The demand for it is obviously what is keeping the price so high.
You should also check the disney website as it may be due for a re-issue if there is so much demand!Do You Twitter?

If you want to buy a DVD from ebay, why not set up a new account specifically for doing so?
That way if you need to leave a neg you can do so and then just junk the account.0 -

Personally, when buying DVDs, I always contact the seller first and ask them politely to confirm that the item is a genuine original version of the DVD, and not a copy, fake or an import. If I get no response then I don't bid.
Also, as Moglex suggested, when buying it is easy to set up a new account, so retaliatory negs should never put you off leaving one in order to warn furture buyers.0 -

Yes, that is a very good idea, thanks, I never thought of that.
In regard to the other comments it is a Disney DVD that is no longer available in the UK although I see Amazon say £40 now, I was hoping to get one for my daughter who is now 4 and loves Beauty and the Beast. Amazon wanted £55 when I first looked but I shall check with Disney as well. Maybe I shall wait until Car Boot season when people do not realise how much they are going for if they have no PC, thing is you have to get past the other people who buy them to sell on eBay and they are going for £50+ at the moment and the double edition for £80. I had a look on te site above and can't find anyone that has one but oh my... the Spanish one is on Amazon for ......... £140!! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beauty-Beast-Spanish-Spec-REGION/dp/B0000649EQ/ref=sr_1_11/203-5615664-3467957?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1173022361&sr=8-110 -

How do you do this?
I tried to set up a separate account and ebay wouldn't let me. It would be useful to have a separate buying account so that retaliatory negs from bad sellers don't spoil my good selling FB. I have 100% atm so I'm a bit scared to leave a neg, however bad the service, for fear of spoiling this.
I'd appreciate advice, thanks.Oh dear, here we go again.0
