Vodafone contract - Redundant how can I cancel?

Comments

  • I spoke with a vodafone agent yesterday.

He advised me that there is no way I can downgrade my plan as its vodafone's policy. But he did tell me to go to the terms and conditions on the website and fill out a form due to my redundance he said i can get out my contract and would be able to port my number to a pay as you go....

I hope this to be true as I am struggling to meet the £50 per month and a 14 months in to the plan vodafone are not helping at all i have advised on several occasions that I can no long meet the payments and need my plan changed to an affordable amount. I don't want to cancel my plan but this is the best option if it is a real one.

I worry that in a month time a wont be able to pay it at all if i can't find employment again. Had this contract for 5 years and it only now i ask for there help to get me through this but instead they are taken the hard line and demanding I stay at £50 per month for the full 2 years.

If I don't get out this contract or get it downgraded, I will be left with no choice but to default on this account and Vodafone will not get there money and i will be left with a bad credit file due to unforeseen circumstances in my personal work life.

Power to you (think this should be power to them)

    Hope someone can help

    Thanks!

Think you have been told a load of ....
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Unfortunately, being loyal to these companies in this day stands for nothing.

Also, as I said before you could consider selling the handset to put towards the payments. I'd assume at £50/Month it'll be a premium handset - 14 months ago a premium handset would have been an Apple iPhone 4 - today these sell for £250-£300 which would cover 5/6 payments and give you some time to find another job and pick up the payments again.

One argument is that you'll be left without a phone, but budget handsets can be picked up very cheap - if you did have an iPhone you can buy an adapter to use the Micro SIM in another one on eBay for about £1.

The moral of the story is a phone contract is rarely a good idea, if you default your credit file is fried. You won;t be taken to court, by they make money by selling the debt on and you get harassed constantly with them wanting the money originally owed.

Yet, a PAYG SIM provides all the connectivity at a price that provides security from anything that will befall you. Sure, you might not get the latest handset, but peer pressure aside - that's no bad thing.

Is this not what the credit file exists for - to warn potential creditors that you can default? I don't think that any lender cares whether the circumstances caused the default were foreseeable or not.

    Hi humantriffic,

Firstly, I am sorry to hear about your current situation. I can appreciate how stressful it must be.

If you have remaining commitment left on your contract, I’m afraid you wouldn’t be able to cancel without incurring an early termination fee.

If you know someone who would be willing to take over the remaining contract, we can do a transfer of ownership.

If you would like to discuss your options, you can contact me personally via the address here with WRT135 FAO Heidi in the subject.

    Kind regards,

    Heidi
