my own is 6 months. at that age are they able to chew/swallow lets say bits of toast and fruit? i am scared of her choking

Check out the link above that daska posted, there is really good advice and information on there that should reassure you.

Some things will make a little one cough or sputter a bit - one thing I found problems with were things with skins (grapes, peppers etc) so i used to peel them for her. Also with harder foods like raw carrots it's better to give them a whole one that they can gnaw on a bit etc (used almost like a teether) than cut up pieces - if something is big then they'll just work off manageable bits, whereas pieces can go in the mouth whole and may be choked on.

A lot of people think baby is choking when actually they are gagging babies have a gagging reflex which kicks in much sooner than adults to prevent choking.

I mainly just fed mine whatever I was cooking. They've all grown up to eat pretty much anything and they're not fussy at all. I think it's easier doing that as you can just cook one meal per night, rather than cooking several meals for different people.
Here I go again on my own....

Small freezer boxes or ice cube trays are the only thing you probably need to buy if you have all the usual kitchen equipment (saucepans, blender or sieves).
Just make sure you keep salt out of food for the baby and you'll be fine.
Baby lead weaning strikes me as a great idea, when my two (now grown ups) were given bits of food to 'have a go with' I used to have people literally snatch it away from them and berate me for not spending the dosh on proper baby food.

The mess can be quite impressive lol

It's easily cleaned up if you have a hard floor though. If your floors are carpeted then I'd recommend getting something to put down at meal times!

    LOL

I don't have any of my own yet just experience of other people's - I cared for my nephew until he was 3 and I've since lived with a friend who had a baby girl.

I think any area where feeding will take place will be hard floors in my house. I don't understand carpet in kitchens anyway and with kids I think it's bonkers!

YES! Even the NHS suggests "finger foods" and HealthyStart suggests "baby fist-sized pieces"
