Bathroom disaster

We are in the process of redecorating our bathroom (well this has been ongoing for the past nine months!!) but yesterday a disaster struck. OH dropped a tile and it hit the side of washbasin and cracked it. Wouldn't be a problem if we didn't have a coloured suite. Basically we needed a new shower tray and enclosure and after some discussion decided to stick with the champagne coloured suite as it is quite a good quality one and there is nothing wrong with it - except it isn't white of course! Managed to get a champagne coloured shower tray, which obviously cost more than a white one, but that was okay.

Now I have to find a champagne washbasin at a reasonable cost. I have checked on the internet and there are a few sites that stock discontinued colours in bathroom ware, but I don't want to end up paying more for a sink than I could buy a whole white suite for, that would be ridiculous. Trouble is new shower tray and enclosure are installed and up and running, so don't want to rip all of that out again.

I am beginning to think we are jinxed and should have just pulled the whole lot out and gone for a new white suite - would have been easier in the long run.

Check your house insurance policy you might be covered for accidental damage to toilets washbasins etc.
They might even pay for the whole suite if you cant get a colour match.
Worth getting the paperwork out !!!

Yes I did look into this but we have £100 excess, so don't think it will be worth claiming really.

Not true. We have a coloured suite, and did the bathroom up in a modern retro look around it..people who come by tell me they LOVE my bathroom. Mind, the suite was a very exspensive one in the day from Twyford's. But my point is, people hate tacky bathrooms, but a good coloured suite can make a positive statement. Its all in the styling :)

Oh yes, I forgot the OP...you can mend cracks in porcelain sinks easily and well. Look for a kit like this:

You can get tehm with tints to add t match the colours.

peeps who come into your home are very unlikely to say the suite is naff!
and remember they are not buying your home, just visiting.
it doesnt matter if the red/blue/yellow/avacado suite is made by BQ or Harrods, its still naff to nearly all prospective buyers.

Do you have a branch of Bradfords near you? My parents bought a bathroom suite in champagne last year (it looks very like the normal white colour to me!) from them.

As Ormas said, try the recycling centre....... when I had a similar disaster I found a fantastic replacement for £10! believe me it is well worth a visit as most of them have a big selection :o

    Hi melbury

Did you find this one? Part of the site is under construction so an 'e' mail might be a start.

Difficult decision ... you've gone so far down the champagne route do you turn back.?
I would say it's a lot more work to rip out a shower and bath than to fit a basin.
    Good luck

being my friends, yes they would. They had a laugh at our last house (it had this garish orange suite and some brightspark mirrortiled the whole thing!!!!!!!eek!). being as they had a nosy because they were also alooking to buy, the comments were along the lines of....i never thought to go for the updated retro look and do it around the coloured suite, this looks fab!

Wow....I love your bathroom...never thought I would like a coloured suite....

and...I love your bathroom, I would leave the suite as it looks great with what you have done with it and everyone has boring white.

So no, people would ot say naff, but I doubt they would come down gushing over it if they did not like it!
it all depends on how good an interior designer YOU are, and that teh suite is not naff in itself first.like bright orange or something. Chapagne, browns, soft gold, and some avocado suites can look classy in the right setting.
