o2 Broadband terrible at finding websites

There is a problem with o2 broadband (also with Be, who's network they use) again now after a similar problem two months ago. Then it was fixed, but the problem was intermittent between then and now.

Presently it is worse than two months ago being impossible to reach LTSB, Halifax, Coventry BS, Yorkshire BS (though Barnsley is possible after repeated reloads).

HSBC loads OK, ING after reload, Northern Rock OK but slow to start to load. Many other links such as some I was pointed to today elsewhere in MSE are impossible to get to.

MSE itself is very slow to load too now, whereas it was traditionally fast - not down to MSE - but Martin need to know that a big ISP is affecting MSE, plus of course many MSE sponsored links.

O2 service status only mention problems at specific exchanges that are fixed, whereas Be are much more up front. O2 tend to offer to give a month free, but that that's no use for a broadband service that is next door to useless.

I do still have a dial-up modem installed - it would be far better to go back to that as at least I know that sites will load, albeit slowly.

O2/Be - PLEASE FIX :mad::mad:

Yes, we have a similar problem but O2 are in denial about the problem. They are currently running a 24 hr test but I don't think anything will come of it. Our problems are exactly how you describe including the fixing the last time it happened. It's annoying. It seems that only commonly accessed websites like Google searches and Amazon will always reliably load fast. I think there is a problem with web pages that are not cached by the ISP.

The only reason I'm not that bothered is that I'm moving house in a months time. Whilst O2 have been the best in the last 5 years, they're not so good now.

Their main differentiation in the past was that they were one of the first to offer fast broadband on ADSL2+. However, now, with BT (albeit more expensive) you can get BT Infinity 2 so we're going to probably try that.

I have just now after very many minutes (10s of minutes really) got to LTSB. It worries me that the slow routing may somehow allow the connection to be intercepted.

A little earlier today I contacted BBC Watchdog about this problem. Hopefully some others will do the same. It's not as though o2 is a niche ISP these days, though for sure they must be losing customers.

I also read on broadband forums (Thinkbroadband and O2 Community) that people getting their MAC code, find that when they provide it to the new ISP, it says it is invalid, but O2 insist it is valid. A stalemate ensues as they will not issue another until the MAC has expired after 30 days. What games are they playing?

Just as it ought to be - and normally would be.

MSE was not loading via O2 LLU Broadband last night and still isn't this morning. I'm having to use my iPhone hotspot.

Same here, I had trouble yesterday and Saturday.

Luckily for me BT are coming round a week today to install Sky's Fibre.

I think it is more to do with the bunker (mse's data centre provider) having rubbish peering agreements rather than O2 having a problem.

Reason being because I can't get onto any site that is hosted by the bunker via o2 broadband.

I'm in South Central Manchester sides and I have been having the same problems. Websites are taking ridiculous long to load or just not loading at all. Maybe luckily for me I signed up with Sky a couple of weeks ago and I am due to be switched over tomorrow day time.

Recent problems are a shame as O2 have always been a brilliant service for the past few years I have been with them. Never really had any problems until this week, switched to Sky due to pricing.

Do come back and say if all is better on Sky won't you?

    Indeed I certainly will.

I spoke to the Sky advisor and they told me I shouldn't really see much difference regarding speed which I got from O2 and was very happy with. So let us see what happens. First few days will be a settling in period on the line and then I will update you :)

What I have noticed is that the problem is less apparant during working hours (Mon-Fri, 9-5). However, evening and weekends, its really bad. So, partially I think there is hardware routing fault and partially I think it gets worse when there is a high usage of the system.
