I'm sick of hearing about people being sick about hearing about the Olympics. I'm also sick of people being sick of people who are sick of people moaning about the Olympics.

    erm...

If those doritos cost billions of pounds and were served only to people in a city hundreds of miles away from me, hell yeah I'd ask why!

Even then, they would provide food for someone. The olympics provides NOTHING for me and millions of others, on the contrary, it actually COSTS me.

Does not benefit anyone. Except maybe Mr XYZ who won a shiny medal for being a good runner, he could flog that on ebay some day ;)

But lots of things cost you money yet provide nothing in personal return. Similarly you benefit from things other people pay for. That's called society.

What really annoys me about the bl**dy olympics is that, firstly as a Londoner, after paying towards the event in our council tax we didn't get any concessions to see any of it.

Secondly Lord Coe (who's been on an almighty jolly for the last decade) got so many inner city schoolkids excited about the olympics over the years by visiting schools and pretending that they were all part of it, without telling them that by the time it arrived probably none of them would ever be able to afford a ticket!

Thirdly, how much does an aircraft carrier, snipers on tower blocks, RAF jets & helicopters patrolling the skies actually cost to hire? Was that included in the 9 zilliontrillion pound budget?

If the majority of countries that have hosted this wasteful event have been left with humongous debts, why don't they just have it in Greece every time? They hosted an excellent olympics, far better than anything our sorry state of an organisaton could ever put on. At least it would boost their economy!

Oh, and before I go, the bl**dy olympic torch! Nobody mentions the CARBON FOOTPRINT of that journey, do they?

    Because Greece is bankrupt.

    It's Greece that's in a sorry state, I think you'll find.

So why don't you think it will boost ours?

I've no interest in the Olympics, and I plan to avoid London wherever possible.

I mostly watch TV from recordings (Sky+), and skip the ads.

.....Is there going to be any respite for those of us who couldn't care less if person A can run faster than person b, or can chuck a spear further or jump a bit higher? ......

    I arranged my own.

I did try for three weeks away (cunning plan and hard saving) but DH wouldn't agree so we're out of the country till 7th August and when we're back I have a list of things to do out of range of TV & radio, and will invest in earplugs.
I've declared myself an Olympic-free zone.
