Wickes delivery to a pavement

Now I understand why the delivery man from the builders' merchant so fervently expected me to give him a hard time when he arrived and found there was no access to the back garden for anything larger than a motorbike...so much so that he was still repeating he couldn't get the truck down there a full minute after I'd said "I know-the drive will be fine."
We had to move a tonne each of gravel and sand, as well as a pallet of bricks, on a sack truck, in plastic crates. It didn't occur to me to come on here and blame him for my bad access. Should I have done?import this0
