I would much rather be in a job I didn't enjoy whilst looking for another one so i was able to food, clothe and provide for my daughter. I too am a single mum, I get no support from her father as he chose to cut her out of his life! I work full time, I have to pay child care and every penny is accounted for. Thankfully I love my job, but I have been in a job that I hated before and secured a new one before moving on. Job security is important, what if its months before you find another one. Stick at it, keep looking for something else and show your son that you are being the best you can be by providing for him without doing it through the state.0

So you would go weeks or even months of your life,
spending the entire day doing things which you found boring/hated doing,
just to earn slightly more than you would get if you didn't do that job??
Some people have no choice in what work they do, but they do choose to work. And yes, I would rather do the crap jobs than sit at home all day on my backside. There's more to work than money - it's about self respect, feeling like you're making a contribution, having independence... The reason that people who genuinely need benefits are having a rough time now is because for too long, the system allowed benefits to become a lifestyle choice.
I was brought up with the values that no honest work is demeaning. Maybe if more people took that attitude then we all might be in a better position. Imagine if everyone had the same views as you and decided that they weren't going to work because they didn't like their jobs - who'd fund the benefits pot then?A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
