False economies

Although lots of their products are great (agree about the Magnum liquid and their plain chocolate is to die for) but I got some of their Bramwell Tartare Sauce the other week. Very watery and insipid, I'll be going back to Colmans.0

ASDA SmartPrice cling film was my biggest budget brand mistake.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

Sainsburys TTD Clotted Cream is made by Rodda as it says the name on the label. My Dad's last company he worked for made the pots and remembers seeing boxes of TTD labels in the factory...
Lots of companies make own brands but that doesn't mean the product is made to the same standard/recipe as their own. The two DO taste different to me, the TTD one somehow seems 'wetter'0 -
i dont like the value angel delight and as we only eat it about once a year i buy the brand....funny how people find things...i got the asda sp cling and found it to be ok...aldi quixo gray granules are ok imoonwards and upwards0

value toilet roll is definitely not worth it; it breaks into bits when used and we use about 2 rolls a day if we buy that; whereas a 9 pack of a decent branded toilet roll can last up to 2 months or even longer. Value mild cheddar is disgusting and often works out the same price or more than the own brand normal cheddar on offer0

Asda Smartprice Instant Custard, I might as well have poured water and sugar over my pud, yuk!0

I only use original Bisto powder, I don't like any of the granules. I have picked up supermarket own powder before & it's been dreadful, usually very salty.
Custard, I again like the old fashioned powder that you mix with milk & bought a huge one from the 99p store, as good as Birds IMO.
Cheap Tea bags, I've tried the sainsburys basics several times & everything between them & PG Tips & still only like PG.
Baked beans, has to be Branstons.
Spread, I like Clover, I like butter, not Anchor but like to be able to spread it from the fridge.
Have tried several others & don't like any of them.0 -
I only use OXO for gravy.
My worst false economy was trying pollock instead of cod. Also buying really fatty cuts of lamb, cheaper to buy a small lean cut of lamb and eat a block of lard.0 -
That reminds me.
Really cheap minced beef. It's so full of fat, I had to drain it off.
Now I use minced pork and turkey. Being so much lower in fat, it doesn't render down anywhere near as much. I now get an extra portion of Bolognese sauce or chilli con carne out of the same quantity of mince.
And it's better for me.The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

I respect your opinion. However, I tried it and thought it was very good, especially being just 6p and the cheapest thing ASDA sell. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.
