False economies

The other week I bought Morrison's own brand gravy, and have used it a few times but the gravy has always turned out lumpy and horrible. So I've had to chuck that and have gone back to Bisto.

Which got me thinking...does anyone know of any own brand/cheap products which have turned out to be rubbish?

I do stick with Bisto for that reason (I don't buy many brands) the thinking is, that once I've made the dinner I don't want to spoil it by covering it in something which dosn't taste nice.

Fairy Liquid and Marigold washing up gloves are the other brands which I think are worth paying more for. Other washing up liquid just dosn't last as long, nor do the gloves.

Cheap loo roll is another thing not worth buying, the tube will be massive are the roll will be small.

If you are near an Aldi try the Magnum washing up liquid, it's 59p for 500ml and came above Fairy Liquid in a which magazine test.

    Hi,

Poundland often have large tubs of Bisto (when they do I stock up).

Loo Roll: Have you tried Nicky toilet roll? that seems to get good reviews from people on here and also Comfy Soft toilet roll (£3.59 for 18 rolls from Home Bargains) I buy that and does the job for us! :o lol.

I don't think Greek-style yogurts are as good as Total Greek yogurt.. Bisto reduced salt gravy granules with meat juice for me..Formil washing powder from Lidl is excellent..my mother puts Andrex in her bathroom and Cushelle in the guest one..Sainsbury's Taste The Difference Cornish clotted cream is nowhere near as good as Rodda clotted cream..if ill in bed I do sometimes have macaroni cheese and I think Heinz is best but Happy Shopper is better than Tesco's..
  • sainsburys own brand nappies are a bargain at 1.59 for 24 and the qualitys better than most branded nappies.......

Are you sure? I buy cheap loo roll and continue to complain that the rolls are now much bigger but the tube is smaller. They have doubled the size of the rolls, but to compensate for the larger size they have made the tube smaller. So small that they no longer fit my pole type loo roll holder.

So was faced with the problem, buy a more expensive loo roll with smaller rolls but normal sized tubes, or buy a new loo roll holder.

So I used the manly solution to the problem, and just chucked the loo roll on the floor.

Sainsburys TTD Clotted Cream is made by Rodda as it says the name on the label. My Dad's last company he worked for made the pots and remembers seeing boxes of TTD labels in the factory...

Cleaning products are false economy as they are weaker in the chemicals. Take the value washing up liquid. Lasted me about a week when I bought it once. Fairy and Magmum (Aldi) lasts me a good 6 weeks.
  • Some people are just hooked on foam and suds and that's not what cleans dishes. Soap is soap.

I think only-one-use cleaning products are a waste of money. What washing-up liquid won't clean Stardops will. Everything and anything. Possibly even the dog as well.
