Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has any ideas. My son's BMW was parked outside his house but not on the drive, on the road and when he was leaving for work today, he noticed that someone had been in the car. The glove compartment had been emptied, dirty marks on the seats, boot opened and water bottle thrown on floor. It was like they had rummaged around everything but as far as we know, didn't take anything.
There was a satnav in glove compartment, but not taken. Someone suggested something about taking the tracker but not sure about that. The same thing happened to them apparently. Should he report it to the police ? Anyone else heard of this happening ? Grateful for any replies.

I'd report it just for the sake of it and incase anything else happens in the future.
Most likely looking for the satnav but missed it in their panic!
He knows I guess that keeping the satnav there is a bad idea! The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
4 people on the ignore list....Bliss!0 -
question is how did the person get in it.
smash a window bend a door frame?
or simply left unlocked, i think the latter.0 -
It's usually that the car was left unlocked.
As you've foundout, thieves know full well that peopleleave the satnav in the glove box.
Never leave anything of value in your car0 -
My DIL's car was broken into a few days ago .....as there was no sign of entry my son assumes he left it unlocked , but puzzled as he has never done so before ( maybe they had a key?)
They took the sat nav , and oddly the ashtray , but left her handbagVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0 -
The same thing happened to me, left it unlocked, woke up in the morning to find the doors wide open, nothing taken, in fact gained a football from my neighbours car that had been similarly opened. All very bizzare, I did call the Police, who to be fair took it seriously, even sent the fingerprint guy out!
They told me it was probably kids after the sat nav, which was left in the door pocket and not taken, told me to lock the car etc. It happened again a couple of weeks later, all my old empty cig packets had gone, did notice an old tramp type bag lady in the area so maybe it was her after her nicotine fix. Now in the habit of locking the car and no further probs.0 -
i still wounder why people leave sat navs in cars?
i mean their small enough thin enough to be placed in a handy wallet (satnav wallet) and put in the jacket pocket.
i always put my face off in my pocket even popping into the shop for two seconds, sometimes i dont even bother taking the face off with me and leave it in the house.
would you leave your wallet on plain display, then why leave a sat nav in a car? all beit in glovebox its not verry savvy? everyone knows where people leave these items.
especially if you leave the mount and cable left on the window it advertises that you have one and chances are 90% of the time its in the glovebox.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I persuaded him to call the police and they came out in about 10 minutes which was quite a shock then sent someone round to take fingerprints. It seems they were wearing gloves so no luck there. My son said he was absolutely sure he locked it and the police said that there is something these people use - a remote jammer which will get them in the car but they can't drive it away. Of course I agree about the satnav, I wouldn't leave one in the car.0

Interesting...with my previous car (206) there were a couple of times where I went to get into it and it was unlocked. Now, I'm pretty obsessive about locking and go around checking each door, so it was a surprise to find it unlocked. I put it down to the remote playing up as it was starting to fall apart. But, it's interesting to see that it could have been someone looking for valuables.0

Get in the habit of locking the car by putting the key in the door rather than by remote. Defeats the jammer and you know the car is locked.Never Knowingly Understood.

My first ever car was a 1981 Ford Fiesta.
I once left it unlocked in the roughest part of town and went to a shop. At the time, theft of car stereo's was rife.
I came out to find a letter on my dashboard. It was from a thief, basically saying he was a car thief and I should remember to lock my car in future as my stereo was well worth taking as were my speakers... it said he was in a rush, so next time I won't be so lucky!!
Nowt had been touched. Even my fags were left on the drivers seat.
I don't reckon I've left my car unlocked since.........0
