  • I've just been reading back through my posts and forgot to mention about my cupboard inventory. I did it, along with rummaging through the freezer and noting all that down.

Why on earth we need 3 bags of frozen peas (all open) and 4 pots of paprika is beyond me.

My plan now is to price check all those items and make sure we're getting them at the cheapest place. I won't do this in one go cos the list is 4 spreadsheet pages long but will try and chip away at it every week using online shopping sites and when I go to a**i and h**e ba*rg**ns who don't have their prices online (I don't think). Then I can just do those odd places once a month or less frequently when I've got a list built up to make the trip worthwhile.

  • Cheers aamberle. I know some may see it as money frittered away but like you say, the deck's a place we'll use to enjoy our home time more (if the blimmin weather gets on board) instead of looking out onto a patch of scrub land as the garden has been until recently. And the holiday is hardly extravagant! £120 for the camping and then we've budgetted £100 for food and spends which will be more than enough so hopefully we'll come back with change.

  • This dreary thursday morning has brought lots of thinking about money with it. I keep thinking about this £750 and what we'll do with it and I'm scared we'll slip back into our old ways. I'm desperate not to go there again and I'm sick of paying money to the fat cats. So I need a plan. I've downloaded my statements from the last 6 months again (which excludes the xmas spending and the november holiday we had - phew!) and I'm going to plug the numbers into my budget planner and be brave and stick an SOA up. I might only post it in here (I'm not sure how many people are actually reading so it feels safe!!!!) but it'll be there in black and white and I won't be able to massage the figures as I've become accustomed to doing.

The extra money must account for the extra childcare we'll need (including vouchers that I'm going to start claiming when work set it up), the pension I'm going to start paying into that work are setting up and then I will look at pots of money I can set up to accrue savings for things like home/contents insurance, car insurance, MOTs, servicing and other things we currently pay by monthly DD or have to absorb costs of when they crop up.

    Hi Mummy,

Well Done on posting - My comment ( for what it is worth) is that you are being a little too tough on yourself..:o You need to look on the positive on all this, you may not have the £750 extra a month to spend on debts - but you do have a bit more than you have now..and you have a plan..which as you know is really the best answer..:D

I wish you every luck, and I bet once you have returned to work, you may find it all will just fall into place..it will be tough and you will need to remain focussed..But I have every faith that you can do it

    Big Hugs xx

Cheers aamberle. I've always been guilty of beating myself up too much!!! Thank you for your kind words.

I've just looked back on that and it doesn't seem to have all come out and I'm not sure why. I'll try and plug the figures in again and make sure it all comes out properly this time.

Edit: I'm not sure why it hasn't put in the summary with total and excess. Basically it's

    Total monthly income: £3511.47
Expenses (incl. HP & secured debts): £2338.11
    Available for debt repayments: £1173.36
    Unsecured debt repayments: £518.84
    Surplus (shortfall if negative) £654.52

    Personal Balance Sheet Summary
    Assets: £247,200
    Secured & HP Debt -£276,995
    Unsecured Debt -£25,829.71
    Net Assets -£55,624.71
