Orange Upgrade Help! (HTC One x)

Hi Guys,

I've been offered a phone early upgrade by Phones 4 u! The HTC One X 18 month contract for free for £36 a month. This includes 600 minutes 3000 Texts and 1GB of Data plus two swapbles? (Orange themselves were alot higher).

Does this sound like a good deal? Has anyone seen a better deal?

I like to stay on orange as you get all the perks like orange weds etc

I believe you cannot offer cashback deals on upgrades? Is this true?

Thanks guys!

    Good deal - no!

You can get cashback on upgrades sometimes with retailers and maybe even enter a cashback deal as well.

Early upgrade can never be a good deal.

P4U's daughter company d-a-p offer the same to new customers for £60+24x£28.50. Yes, it's £60 upfront, but this equates to just extra £2.50 p.m. even ignoring £50.50 TCB cashback available.

You're missing the crucial point which is that he's been offered an 18 month contract, I think its a good deal

But thats £744 - 50 so £696 (plus an extra 6 months holding onto the mobile)? Which is more than 36 * 18 = 648!

Can you please explain to me why an upgrade can never be a good deal?

    Thanks for you help :-)

This is what I thought? 18 month seems like a good deal as your not paying alot of money for a phone for a further six months? You get the upgrade quicker so your using the latest tech!

The worst which will happen is this phone goes down to 25 pound a month in 12 months time? I love a tenner a month so £60 quid!

    [STRIKE]£36*18=£648

£370 - PAYG phone at '3' - as posted at HUKD
£15 - unlocking at '3' (apparently cheaper at ebay)
    -£12 - TCB cahback
    £216=£12*18 - airtime at talkmobile (750Mb though, not 1Gb)
    _____
    =£589

Unless you really need 1Gb, paying £36*18 instead of £370+£12*18 means 22% APR - not the worst rate if you cannot afford paying £370 or cannot get a 0% credit card.[/STRIKE]

Ignore this. It was One S :o

Grumbler is right. You're often better off paying full price for your phone and then going on a cheap SIM-only tariff. This gives you more flexibility and costs you less overall.

Is the £370 definitely for the one-x?
