Would a travel cot be more practical?
I had one and I loved it! I used to keep it downstairs for baby to sleep in during the day. Once baby was a little bigger, it doubled up as a playpen for when I was busy. I would say put it in the kitchen while I was cooking, so baby could still see me and chat to me, but wouldn't get under my feet while I was dealing with hot stuff. I also used to like to put it in the garden, so baby could sleep in the fresh air in warmer weather. It got masses more use than a moses basket would have done. Here I go again on my own....0 -

If you want a new mattress for it, they are really cheap, but nobody would expect you to buy an item without having looked at it first to check for any damage etc.. There is so much good quality second hand stuff out there and babies don't use them for very long so it would really be a waste of money to fork out for a brand new one if there is a bargain to be had. Second hand is nothing to be ashamed of!
One poster has already said that things to be considered are whether the item is really needed. A moses basket is not an essential. It is nice to have, but is it really worth buying a new one when it will only be used for a few weeks? My dd (now 9) grew out of her moses basket in about 8 weeks. I am so glad I didn't buy it as it was given to me by my friend who had twins the year before.
Especially considering the OPs signature lol0 -
i am pregnant and very thankful for offers of things from people, i always thought i wouldtn "do" second hand but now i have seen some prices!
most of my friends have used the caryycot thing you get with the pram as their moses basket.. what type of pram have you bought? maybe you could do that? thats what we will do i think.0 -
