We never used with our youngest son,he slept in the carrycot part of the pram on a rocking stand :)

He went into a cot after a few months so was glad we didnt spend extra on a moses !

def buy 2nd hand, babies are in them for such a short amount of time they are still like new ! just buy a new matress and wash the covers

personally i would rather buy a 2nd hand "better" moses eg mamas & papas sturdy one than a brand new flimsy £20 jobby IYSWIM :)

for my eldest son we used a huge cane moses basket that had been used for about 4 other children in the family ! it was gorgeous and so well made ,it still looked like new after all that time ! :)

Thing is, a mattress can cost as much as the moses basket!:money:

If you can do without and fit the cot in your room, I would be more tempted to do that - as imo they are all pretty naff!

I paid £5 for a new moses basket mattress from a little independent nursery shop.

Moses baskets can be convenient - trouble was my son hated his. He ahd a twitch and kept waking himself up banging his arms against the wicker!

don't want second hand moses basket.. only new and with freecycle you just have the word of someone else that it is new. Tried family & friends. Already have cot for upstairs and want basket for downstairs....

I bought a plain one from a cheap catalgue shop and then decorated it myself! Cost about a tenner all in.

Why do you insist on having a new one? I have 1 which I need to get rid of, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. If you want a new mattress for it, they are really cheap, but nobody would expect you to buy an item without having looked at it first to check for any damage etc.. There is so much good quality second hand stuff out there and babies don't use them for very long so it would really be a waste of money to fork out for a brand new one if there is a bargain to be had. Second hand is nothing to be ashamed of!

One poster has already said that things to be considered are whether the item is really needed. A moses basket is not an essential. It is nice to have, but is it really worth buying a new one when it will only be used for a few weeks? My dd (now 9) grew out of her moses basket in about 8 weeks. I am so glad I didn't buy it as it was given to me by my friend who had twins the year before.

I had a moses basket for downstairs use with both of mine. with eldest house was too small for us to put the pram up and with youngest we had a travel system. In both cases I could put the basket on a sturdy surface within my living room so didn't need a stand. I bought a plain one from babies 'r' us and my MIl made all frilly lacey edging for it. My kids were about 12 weeks old when they outgrew them.
