I've opened up my search to cars over 10 years now, simply because I've fell in love with the old 98 onwards Jag XJ 4.0 v8 - can't believe the amount of car you get for under £1500, and some have FSH and 1 owner (and £2000 for the 6 litre v12!!). Narrowed down to:

    Alfa 166, poss 156
    Jag XJ v8

Although there are a few lexus available at that price but I've no idea if the alan partridge model is any good, and if something appears nearby thats a good price I'll go for that.
Off to look at the weekend, can't wait!

If you opt for the Jag make sure the timing chain tensioners have been changed for the latest versions. Pretty much the only thing to look out for on these now.

Or if you can find one for 2k get an XJR you'll love it

Good shout, look at this one!

I know that it could be a lot of trouble, but it looks really clean, and has MOT and tax.

    How about a Seat Toledo, it's basically a previous gen A4, available as a 1.8T or 2.3 V5

I had similar criteria but double the mileage, and went for the TDI130 Toledo. If I'm honest, I'm rather underwhelmed. Good engine, cheap to run, but everything else about it feels average. Check the rear footwells for dampness if you go for one, leaks are common!

Honda Civic Type S, the older body shape rather than the Buck Rogers version? Probably out of the price range but a really nice car. I rather like the fact it looks like a common or garden Civic, but I suspect your 'unusual' criteria would rule it out.

That rules the Seat out ;)
I want something thats going to make me cry with fuel bills or make me ask the mechanic if his calculator is broken when he presents me with his service bill. Not quite at mid life crisis age but I'm getting there (31)!

Definitely an Alfa then :rotfl: (though to be fair the 2 I had cost me less in 3yrs than my Audi A4 has in 6 months)
