I realise it sounds like you've made your decision, but I have one last suggestion.

When I was unsure about the canapes, our venue offered us an option where you could replace the starter of the main breakfast with having canapes at the reception.
That would have saved a bit of money.
Is it worth asking your venue if they'll do the same?
Thank you for that idea i will think about, but the soup is just so tasty i think people may just prefer the full meal, hmmm will have a think, but appreciate your input :)

Probably just worth speaking to the venue about this and see what they can come up with. Just say that you want *something* to tide the guests over for an hour or so, but can't afford £5/head on canapes - see if they have any other ideas.

This is probably a terrible idea, but if it's a question of giving them something to eat at that in-between stage but not being able to afford anything extra...would it be possible to cut the cake then and serve cake with the drinks? I know it's the wrong way round to do things but on the other hand, everyone likes a bit of cake in the afternoon, and it's more likely to be appreciated then than after a huge three course meal. Also means you can get the lovely cutting the cake pictures done whilst still fresh and pretty and un-bloated. Just a thought!

Personally if I'm completely honest I do think it's quite a while to go for your guests without anything to eat. Realistically if the ceremony starts at 11.30, the absolute latest anyone will have eaten is 10.30, and then if you sit down for the wedding breakfast at 3, chances are they won't be putting forks into mouths until maybe 3.15, so that's nearly 5 hours, and more if people had further to travel so ate their breakfast/brunch earlier than 10.30, as a lot probably will have done. This is why I'm leaning towards having our ceremony at about 2 so people can have lunch beforehand if they want to. We're also serving canapes with the welcome drinks though.

HOWEVER - as everyone else says - it's your wedding, and if this is what you have decided will work for you, as long as you make sure people are aware of the timings, no adult is going to collapse if made to wait 5 hours to eat (and if anyone has a medical condition that makes this likely, they'll know to sort themselves out a snack anyway!)

I think your timings look alright, and the fact that you have small numbers, I would just tell people to eat a breakfast!

I've not been to a wedding yet where I had anything to eat before 3pm, apart from my own!

Our venue was about 1hr drive from our home, and the same back to the reception venue. I hired some glasses from Morrisons, bought some sparkling wine and orange juice, ordered a few platters of sausage rolls and sandwiches from Greggs which my now husband picked up in the morning. All laid out at the castle for after the ceremony. People were over the moon with this, but I would not have done it if we were closer to home x
Can't think of anything smart to put here...

That sounds like a lovely thing to do but not an option for Hollie - she's already said that her hotel doesn't let her provide her own catering, and I think she said she's getting married in a church so you can't really whip out sausage rolls therE1

Hi, no i really dont want to cut the cake until the evening when all our guests will be present.im sure the adults will survive i think its probably more the children that will be hungry but like i say i will tell the guests and they can pack a snack for themselves and the children if they wish.i have two myself so will be packing a little snack for them to eat in my parents car on the way over to the venue,my two usually have brekkie at 7.30am and will quite happily go until 2pm for lunch if they had to.

You do your cake photos before the meal anyway (with nobody else in the room) ;)

Ugh! Sorry, but that's something that really gets my goat!

I've been to a couple of weddings where they've done this and I just don't get it. Actually, I do get it - it's always been because they've only got the photographer for a limited time and he wants to dash off before you *actually* cut the thing. So you get locked away from your guests for a few minutes while he gets the shot, then it's on to the next shot.

I was having none of that at our wedding...It's supposed to be your day, not the photographer's!...the photographer photographed us cutting the cake when we cut it - and that was that. And there are all our friends and family in the background of the shots. Lovely.

It made sense for us. We also had the speeches before the meal. We fed the photographers but didn't want them taking photos while people were actually eating.
