Can I ask why? A standard 3 course meal plus coffee would usually take around 2 hours to be served and eaten. Why are you stringing it out? Seems very odd to me.

Does it? Was just what the venue suggested really. You're right it is a long time. It's not set in stone though just yet.

snacks are a good idea, never heard of it till last weekend but an army marches on its stomach and so will your guests.

a bit of careful planning can get some bulk deals on snacks (i would try home bargains)
Who remembers when X Factor was just Roman suncream?
  • I hadnt really thought about this, but raised some good points.

Our Ceremony is starting at 1pm so we probably wont sit down untill 3.30-4.00pm The venue is 10mins from the church and their is a bar, So I will get them to put some snacks and nibbles out for everyone to keep hunger pains at bay.

Venue is just across the road from the beach so people can have a wander if the weather is nice, or drive upto the arcades.

    Hollie84,

Plan your day how you want, and just give your guests the relevant timings. Let people know what time they would be sitting down to eat, then they can decide how to deal with their brunch / snack options.

I'd be starving by then, but I'm very capable of planning ahead and stashing a snack in my bag or car. I wouldn't expect the bride and groom to cater to my every need, and you've got better ways to spend your time and money.

I don't know if by 'wedding breakfast' you literally mean breakfast; but having just been a guest at a wedding where breakfast was cooked fresh on the beach (at 1pm), I thought it was a mighty fine food choice.

Regardless of what you're serving, and at what time, all the best for your wedding day!

At first I was against having canapes at our wedding.I thought people will manage fine - ceremony was at 3, sit down meal at 5.30.
But I was persuaded by both sets of parents, and actually when I think back, even though I've managed at weddings without snacks, it's a really nice touch when people do provide something, especially with reception drinks.

For a guest, there can be a lot of waiting around at weddings for photos, so it's nice to show them that you've thought about them, either with food or by providing something else to keep them entertained.
But, at the end of the day, it's personal choice.

I have been watching four weddings usa & they tend to have a "cocktail hour" between ceremony & meal. On the programmes I've seen this tends to be a full buffet meal immediately before the main meal... lol

I think im just going to leave it as it is,i will ask the venue to serve food at 3,like i said in other posts FIL is photographer so the best thing about having him do it is we can say stop taking pics now its time to eat.and continue with more after.i will let everyone know we wont be eating until then and its then upto then what they want to do.
You cant take your own snacks for guests into the hotel so that idea is out the window and canapes are £1.50 per person and u have to order a minimum of 3 so works out to be expensive.people wont need to get to the church until around 11 so can always have a late breakfast if they wish

I realise it sounds like you've made your decision, but I have one last suggestion.

When I was unsure about the canapes, our venue offered us an option where you could replace the starter of the main breakfast with having canapes at the reception.
That would have saved a bit of money.
Is it worth asking your venue if they'll do the same?
