Relinquishing Entitlement to DLA

I have recently been sent a change of circumstances form by the DLA which I requested. I've been getting better for a while and decided I'm at a point where I'm confident enough of the changes to inform the DWP.

I called the DWP and asked if I could simply relinquish my benefit as I know the DLA process well enough that I won't get any benefit anymore and I'm happy to just accept this and give it up. I wrote a letter to the DWP stating that I retract my form and would like to relinquish my benefit as I am much happier now, don't want to go through the stress of forms/decisions and would prefer to live off benefits.

Does anyone know how long it will be until I get a confirmation of this? Has anyone done it before?

Right now, I'm so paranoid that I'm still technically entitled to the benefit if it hasn't been cancelled yet - what if I'm seen to be cheating!

  • if you have told them you no longer want dla then let them take it from there, perhaps a quick call to make sure they received the letter?

Stop worrying, you have done everything correctly.

Are you capable of working, even part time rather than trying to live off benefits.

Yes, I have been working full time for about 6 months. I was studying before that/since I started DLA (before that my parents got it for me). I'm very happy to be off the benefit - when I was born they told my parents I'd never walk, talk, need to be spoonfed etc:j:T

Good for you Rachel, I like your work ethic and bet your mum and dad are too.

Good luck, but if you feel you need to apply again at any time, dont hesitate, it is an entitlement not charit.

I still haven't heard anything about this and waiting for things like this makes me anxious.

Has anyone else done this before and know how long it takes before I should hear or receive something? I wrote on April 12 and called on the 14 to confirm they got my letter.

I don't understand why you would want to lose out on this benefit?

You can still work whilst claiming DLA. As long as you ring and inform them of circumstances. (keep a note of who you spoke too and the date/time).

Presumably Rachel feels better. If she feels good about it and also it takes away the threat of someone from DWP inviting her her in for interview under caution for not informing them of a change of circumstance.

Probably it helps psychologically too. :j:j:j

Just up an' at 'em Rachel. No telling what you can do when you try........

Just forget about it, what's to be anxious about, absolutely nothing. You have informed them, that should be that.

By not getting anything throught the post, your not gaining or losing, enjoy yur life, let others do the worrying:D

if the OP fee;s she no ;pnger has care/mobi;ity needs. then she isnt entitled tp c;aim DLA
in that case she is entirely right in stopping hert claim, as continuing to claim would be fraud
