dh went to the pub same night and helped look after kids as i was ready for having our 3rd he said it was sore but nothing more ,he did give the drs a good laugh about 4 months later when he went to see them in a panic as he could feel a lump and dr told him it was his knots from op hence one red faced hubby who said something along the lines of "they dont tell you about the knots "

Similar thing happened to me only my dissolving stiches went green
Cue quick visit to doctor who calmly states -yes they're just dissolving, perfectly ok.

I replied - I wasn't sure if they were dissolving or decaying !!

Cue much laughter from Doc - could still hear him laughing as I walked down the corridor :o

I had a vasectomy about 10 years ago. Nothing to it under local anasthetic at my doctor's surgery. The whole thing took about 10 minutes from pants down to pants up again:). Worst part, the smell of burning flesh as they cauterise your tubes:cool::rotfl:. Wear some snug fitting pants for support.

I took the following day off but I could have gone to work if I'd had to (office job).

I gave the equipment its first test about a week later. No problems.

For about 6 months afterwards I would very ocassionally get an ache in the balls that lasted a few minutes, uncomfortable but no more.

    I've never regretted it.

I got 'fixed' about 11 years ago (on valentine's day!) and was told horror stories by colleagues beforehand, but if you consider how invasive it is for a woman to be sterilised, how much cost (emotional and financial) is involved in 'additional' children to raise and the alternative of paddling with your wellies on so to speak, it was an easy decision for me to just go for it.

Just remember to take the doc's advice re taking it easy. It might feel like you can get back to things straight away, but the first 24 hours is when you can prevent excessive swelling by just putting your feet up.

I would class the after effects as mildly uncomfortable, and it was a strange sensation when they were pulling and tugging during the procedure, but no more traumatic/painful than say having a tooth out. I was slightly unlucky in that I ended up with a secondary kidney infection, but have had no problems since. My boxer wearing days are over though, as if they have too much freedom, things get a bit achy at certain times of the year, so it is supportive briefs only for me now.

    .

I know what you mean but I found standing up the most comfortable thing to do in the first 24 hours:).

I can only go on what my OH experienced about 28 years ago!
firstly - he was rather surprised to have to get his 'bits' shaved.
secondly although he had it done under local anaesthetic and was told not to drive home - he did!
thirdly - he quite appreciated the advice to erm 'have sex as soon as you feel able and as often as possible (this shortened the period where he would produce 'live' sperm).
My OH said that the procedure itself was painless and that afterwards it wasnt as bad as he expected.
My OH thought the worst part was producing semen samples so they could test whether they were 'live' or 'blanks'. within a month they were blanks - and I was worn out!

My Husband had it done around 11 years ago without any problems at all.

He went back to his job which was very manual and heavy the day after the procedure.

I dont remember him experiencing much pain at all.
The loopy one has gone :j

It was a snip about 30 -40 years ago but can't remember anything about it so couldn't have taken much notice of it.

My partner had the snip about 2 years ago, after the GP refused to allow to me get sterilised, do to my age.

I went with my OH to the hospital but i was not allowed to be in the same ward as him. He didn't have to get shaved as it all depends on how hairy you are in that area.

Take a book with you in case they's a wait and just chill. Hard to say i know.

I got my partner some painkillers but to be honest he need them. He said he felt slight pressure when the needle in when the area was numbed and felt slight tugging sensation when they were performing the operation but that was it.

But he did get swelling for about two weeks and wasn't in massive amounts of pain. Just felt uncomfortable. The consultant advised him to get rid of the "little men" so to speak, about a week after the operation. Just to make tube were clear of the for when he attended the follow up. Four week later he's got the all clear.

Now he had's the op, our sex life is a lot more fun due to not being so stressed out after any unexpected surprises so to speak.
He reckons its better now as lets just say in some cases it can make the area more sensitive if you know what i mean.

sorry janepig i was in stitches in reading that about your friend hahaha
